I`m still searching for Oluf Skjarstad. I can not find anymore at the web and the period from 1943 to 1953 is "dark". I have some information about him from the period 1953-1955. I will like to know where and when he died, but it`s not easy to find out. Someone have an idea in new ways for searching?

This marriage ended in divorce. In the Seattle Daily Times, dated Friday 5 Jan 1945, pg 18, col 6 in an article titled "Divorces Asked"
Hazel from Nick Skjarstad, cruelty

And apparently Nick married again as there is another divorce granted found in the Seattle Daily Times Saturday, 27 Nov 1948 pg 10, col 6 under the heading "Interlocutory Divorce Decrees Granted":
Lillian from Nick J. Skjarstad

This is from The Free Dictionary by Farlex online:
interlocutory decree n. a court judgment which is temporary and not intended to be final until either a) other matters come before the judge, or b) there is a specified passage of time to determine if the interlocutory decree (judgment) is "working" (becomes accepted by both parties) and should become final. Interlocutory decrees were most commonly used in divorce actions, in which the terms of the divorce were stated in an interlocutory decree, which would be in force until a final decree could be granted after a period of time (such as one year after serving the divorce petition). The theory was that this would provide for a period in which reconciliation might be possible, and would also test the efficacy of the original order which might be changed upon a motion of either party. Interlocutory decrees of divorce have been abandoned as a procedure in most states, because they seldom had the desired effect and appeared to waste the parties' time.

I have been searching for Olaf Skjarstad long time but no track after 1955. No deathcertficate, no result on Find a grave.com and no obituary for him. If he had disappeared and has not been found, maybe it's information about this at police authorities? Are there someone who can give me any tips for further seaching? Will be thankful for help.

Sten, if you're feeling lucky you could just assume he died in Illinois and ask the Illinois state office of Vital records for a search. Fees will be charged.

Otherwise being patient in the hope that one or other of the various subscriber based newspaper sites come to include a paper in which he appears some time into the future. [I did search the "free search" of the Chicago Tribune archives (1852-1988) for Sharstad or Skjarstad and got no results today.] There are other Chicago papers.

Findagrave adds new listings nearly every day. Again a patient approach might pay off.

You have tracked and got every or any obituary of Olaf's brothers in Norway and he is not mentioned as surviving?

Track down the children of his wife Ann Joas Rohde Sharstad Borre and hope they know something about Olaf and take pity on you in your quest.
Get a copy of their divorce papers--it might help with the blank years from 1943-1953. Ann herself died in 1944-45.

City directories of Chicago after 1955 might give you addresses etc or ads if he was still working as "Olaf the Tailor" Mostly these are not online but public libraries and local and county historical societies often have them in their holdings. If his name stops appearing after a certain year that might indicate that he has died or moved elsewhere.

Who is the new wife mentioned in the articles from 1953-1955? You know she was from Kirksville, Missouri. Try to find their marriag record and then track down her relatives to see if they might know about his and her fates.

jkmarler: Thank you. I found the name of cemetery on the deathcertificate and it was Savanna Township Cemetery.

JaneC: Thank you, but this one is created by my second cousin afther we found Olufs deathcertificate. I have not seen this at Find a grave.com before now, thanks that you told me:-)

Nick J Skjarstad is Olufs son. He came also to America, in 1929. We found him last year after much searching, but it took much more time to find his father Oluf. Without help from Yours here on this community, it would take longer time. Thanks to all of you for great help:-))
