Mother lastname is not known. The name "Thomasen" is from his wife, which was of English origin.

Okay so maybe not them but on this site there is a Thom Nicolson age 7 coming in 1845 on Probus. Father's first name a bit of a puzzle-Guri is a female name--and Thom coming from Norway doesn't match the marriage record:

http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_list.asp?jo=2215&ps=40163

Dueling interpretations. In Naeseth Vol II this family is interpreted as Arne Mikkelsen age 45 f born 1800, Guri Mickolson 46, m b 1797, all the children with surname Mickolson on the list are rendered as Arnesen or Arnesdatter as their sex dictates: Ole age 11, Kari age 9, Thor age 7, Anne

Passenger list 1851 - bark Columbus

Østen Mikelsen 59 m
Jøran Rickhardsdatter 58 f
Hæge Østensdatter 22 f
Nils Østensen 18 m
Rannei Østensdatter 20 f
Richard Østensen 14 m
Throne Østensdatter* 6 f Thrond Østensen 6 m ?

* after a piece of information, e.g. a patronymic or surname/farmname, indicates that the information is not given in the original, but included by the registrator on the basis of the information regarding the surrounding persons in the source.

I think it should say Thrond Østensen, not Throne Østensdatter.

What about the Nick. Thompson b. June 1822 in Norway, in Tilden town Chippewa, Wisc. census-1900?
Anyone located him in the 1880-census?

I think Nick could be O. Nels Torhoug in census-1880 for Blue Mounds, Dane, Wis.
(Listed as "O. Nels Torberg" in the Digitalverket version of the census.)
He has sons Ole (17) and Nicolai (3), which fits with the 1900-census from Tilden, Chippewa, Wis.

Isn't an 1822 birthyear a bit shy for the father of a person b. 1836? Physically possible but exceedingly unlikely....

Statistically from the 1860 Norwegians in US database at Digitalarkivet. Males with "om" in the first name + "om" in the surname born in:
1834 1 lives in Illinois born In Norway
1835 2 - 1 lives in Minnesota, 1 in Wisconsin both b Norway
1836 2 - 1 lives in Illinois, 1 lives in California both b. Norway
1837 1 lives in California b. Norway
1838 3 -1 lives Iowa, 2 live Illinois all born Norway

Unless Thomas Thompson's name was transformed from something else entirely and his birth year radically different, something has to give...But which detail or characteristic is off?
