I woud like some help locating the birth and thus the parents of Ranni Iversdatter born about 1750 in Vest-Agder. She is listed in the 1801 Census along with her husband Ole Larsen Butveit and their two daughters. I have looked at the pages for Bjelland from 1749 to 1751 with no luck. That doesn't mean that she is not there as the writing from those particular pages is extremely difficult for me to read. Here is a link to the census.

The father of the 3rd last entry on far right column is Biĝrn Tronsen who baptized the son Bernt on April 18 1751.

Ranni (Ranvei?) is dif. to find, a mystery. She was a widow when she married Ole Larsen ca 1784. Ranni had no children from her 1. marraige living with her on Butvet 1801. Her first marriage could perhaps tell us where she came from. There are some Ranvei Iversdatter born ca 1750 +- a few years, but from another parish.

Thank you guys for your help, I tried to find her a few years ago with the same amount of luck as we had this time. This far back in time the searches become more difficult. |

Ranni seems to be non exisitng in Bjelland: She was married twice in 1801.
She was mother to Asper age 16 and Marthe age 13 in the 1801 census on Butvet in Bjelland, father was farmer Ole Larsen.
Have you find any of them?
I have not.
The Bygdebok for Bjelland/GrindheimI is not online. Perhaps the answer is there.
I starts to wonder if they came from another parish before 1801.

For most of my information for that part of my family I have used this Bygdebok.
Magnus Breilid, Grindheim Gards Og Ĉttesoge (Utgjeve Av Bygdesogenemnda 1966), University of Minnesota, Wilson Library.
On page 400 he describes the 3rd family living at Butveit in 1801. Using the bygdebok I have been albe to trace the ancestors of Ole Larsen Butveit back to 1616, however the author does not give any further information on Ranni Iversdtr, other than kone, 51 ċr, i 2 etages.

Well I just had a bit of luck. I wanted to tell you about the ancestors of Ole Larsen Butveit, whose father is Lars Davidson Austre Sveindal. So I googled Lars Davidson Sveindal and found a family tree for him. Clicked on his son Ole and found his wife Ranni. and her father Iver Olson Hċland and her mother Asbor Knutsdtr.
So now I need to follow up on this information.
Here is the link if you are curious.
Smedlands Slekta
This Family Tree is quite well documented and uses sources that are quite detailed. Take a look at Suenncke Smittland born abt 1565, scroll way down and comment if you will on these sources.

I am happy you found them.
Wow, great info. One of your ancestor, Svencke Smitland, "Lagrettemann og bonde" Local judge and farmer was elected as one of the delegates from Grindheim to celebrate "prinsehyllingen" the prince-celebration of Christian IV on April 26. 1591 on Akershus Fortress in Oslo.
Well, Christain IV. was king of Denmark-Norway from 1588 Christian IV

Well I have two other on that list are my 8th and 9th great-grandfathers respectively as both Knut Ĝdyne and Kittel Hċland are also in my family tree. I suppose that when one goes that far back most of Norway and least in that small corner are related.
I am going to have to explore this tree for a few weeks. |

You`ve got yourself a lot of work The link "Akershusskatten 1595" for Christian Fjeldsgaard will not cooperate. This was an extra tax for the expansion of Akershus

The exstra tax for Akershus Fortress 1594.
Suencke Smitland, man, farmer. Origin is Smidrland, also mentioned as Smedland. (Smiths land) Suencke Smitland is reg. on page 56 link and paid 0,26 (SpesieDaler?) in extra tax. 0,26 Spesi Daler in 1595, ca 1000 Dollar in 2012
Good luck with the investigation.

Thanks Kċre,
So if I understand, in 1595 there was a extra Tax for the fortress Akershus in Oslo. And the paymet of that Tax extended way out to the Agder area within Norway. And Suencke Smitland paid his portion of the tax. Long ways to go to collect a tax for Oslo. |

That is correct. It was a long way to collect tax, it seems like the farmers in Lister magistrate were the only who paid "Akershus" tax. Other districts paid "Bygningskatt" tax on buildings.
The king was inventive; Sawmillmaster tax and Sawmil tax, Inheritance tax, Provisions tax, Fireplace tax etc. From 1660-1670 came "Rytterskatt" (Cavalry tax) a military tax. - 1711 Shoe tax, an extra tax for shoes bought in towns. - Kopskatten, a tax on each head on the farm included cottagers from1646, in the 1680s and -90s, from 1762-72, but from 1773-82 the tax on each head was voluntary, every farmer should pay according to ability.
