University of North Dakota Chester Fritz Library has this book. Since I do not live in North Dakota, I had developed a relationship with one of the librarians at UND and I was able to have them copiy for me various chapters of various Bygdebøk. I have not used that service for about two years but one can probably request from them the index from the book of interest and using that get the chapter that you want.

Bygdebok for Eid
Myskja, Karl. Arne G. Brekke Bygdebok Collection (Chester Fritz Library) 1987
Available at UND EB Robinson Special Collections CFL Floor 4 Special Collections Genealogy (DL596.E2 M97 1987 )

Apparently not at the University of Minnesota or I would go over and look at it. Also available at St Olaf University in Minnesota, but I would think that UND is closer.

Try e-mailing them and I think they may be willing to provide you with some pages for a very reasonable fee. I see that they now have a Chat system that might also work.

Well, you seem quite capable. Maybe you would consider getting whatever information that might be obtainable from the Eid book at UND yourself just to see if Børge Justson Siem can be ruled in or out?

The farm the Just Mortensen family was on in 1865 was Siem. Ane Justsdatter was on indre Siem.

Even though the Ane on Siem is listed as unmarried I did find this marriage for an Ane Justsdatter. There are at least 2 Just Mortensen in Eid.:

Ane Justsdatter d/o Just Mortensen Hatle age 21 to Ole Olsen Eide #2 marriage:
Source information: Møre og Romsdal county, Eid in Eid, Parish register (official) nr. 542A02 (1854-1884), Marriage records 1868-1871, note pages etc. 0, page 136.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6385&idx_id=6385&uid=ny&idx_side=-96

This Ane is a daughter of another Just Mortenson, not Børre's father, see the link to Osvald Rydjord's database on page 14.

Some general considerations about the name Børre. In the 1865 census transcription online the name Børre appears in each of the fylke except one and in greatest numbers in Hedmark & Oppland. In Hedmark the most Børre are found in Ringsaker, Vang, and Næs. These are all without considering any other things like patronymic, birthdate or anything else:

fornavn: børre
Fylke Antall
Østfold 13
Akershus 8
Oslo 18
Hedmark 128
Oppland 70
Buskerud 2
Vestfold 17
Telemark 12
Aust-Agder 30
Vest-Agder 4
Rogaland 38
Hordaland 2
Sogn og Fjordane 8
Møre og Romsdal 10
Sør-Trøndelag 3
Nord-Trøndelag 8
Nordland 1
Troms 0
Finnmark 1
Totalt 373

Database Antall
0401 Hamar 6
0411 Næs 19
0412 Ringsaker 48
0414 Vang 37
0415 Løiten 3
0416 Romedal 3
0417 Stange 2
0419 Søndre Odalen 1
0420 Eidskog 6
0426 Vaaler 1
0427 Elverum 1
0429 Aamot 1
Totalt 128

When migrating people from Hedmark and Oppland are most likely to have left via Oslo. There is only one of these Børre born in Kristiania and he is a single, 57 year old, patronymic Ols. so cannot be your Børre.

I can certainly try to locate this book through UND.

"Bygdebok for Eid
Myskja, Karl. Arne G. Brekke Bygdebok Collection (Chester Fritz Library) 1987
Available at UND EB Robinson Special Collections CFL Floor 4 Special Collections Genealogy (DL596.E2 M97 1987 )"

I would ask them to copy any pages that reference the Siem Farm that the Just Mortensen family was on in 1865 in Norway. Specifically, that I was interested Borge Justson Siem. Would I reference Gust?

I've requested the information from UND but it appears the library is closed tomorrow. I may not receive a response until Monday, March 3.

One thing yoiu might try is the chat service. Note at the very bottom of the page link that Jackie gave just above your last post is a section called Contact. In that list at the very bottom is a Chat box to click on. I assume that when the library is open a real person will respond to your clicking on that button and being able to chat with a person might speed up the search.

But, yes asking for the chapter on the Siem farm for the period of 1865 plus or minus some years could provide some information. Remember that many farms will be subdivided, so the overall chapter could contain sections on each of the subfarms. Note that in 1865 Census the whole family of Just Mortensen lived on the farm. In 1900 Census only daughter Ane lived there alone and in 1901 Ane and her husband lived there. I suspect that they lived on a subfarm.

In 1865 the farm is called Siem indre* (inner) Note the star symbol, It separates this farm from Siem indre. In the 1865 Census there are 21 people living on Siem indre and there are 12 pepole living on Siem indre*. On Siem indre* there appear to be three families, the largest is that of Just Mortensen, The other two are small families, Eli Ingebrigstdatte and her datter Anne Petersdatter, and Jens Christensen and his wife Kari Olsdatter.

Use this link to study the make up the farm, It is not a small farm so there are close to 50 some people living on some farm with the name Siem in 1865 in Eids.
Siem

Put Siem in the farm box, click on 1865, click on Møre og Romsdal and click Search. Should get you there.

Don't give up, it is sometimes hard to get the information that you want out of Bygdebok that is right in front of you.

UND acknowledged my request and said they would get back to me in 1 business day. I did look around in their library at their special collections. This is the section where this book is located. I can locate Just Mortensen at the link lyndal40 posted, but I can't seem to see the other families on the Siem Farm. Unless I should just be clicking on the next domicile. The link shows Just Mortensen as a "Gaardbruger og Selveier." Does this translate to "farmer and ???"
