I'm back. Been working on how to move the pin on the map. Here is second attempt:
http://kart.finn.no/?lng=7.56131&lat=62.57396&zoom=13&mapType=normap&markers=7.56200,62.58254,r,Brukerdefinert%7C7.52767,62.58325,b,Brukerdefinert

Let's see how that flies....
Does it show the right Siem and Strømme [aka Straume]?

Guess we'll have to wait just a little longer for the Eid bygdebok information. They were able to locate the Seim farm and Just Mortensen. He will scan the pages and email these to me tomorrow. Sounds like they had lots of requests to process. I also found a distant cousin that responded to my email and she may have some family information, but I'm not sure if she may only have photos or something more.

This the first page of Siem indre in the "real estate registers" at the digitalarkivet. Pages 18, 19, 23 mentioned some of the names we've already seen:

Kildeinformasjon: Protokollnummer: 11, Sted: Romsdal sorenskriveri, Eid tinglag, Oppbevaringssted: SAT
Merknader: Realregister for Eid. Med register.
Permanent bildelenke: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-tl10040907080035.jpg

There is a database online in which Just Mortensen his descendants and ancestors appear. There is no further information on Børre Justsen in the base than what we've already seen but it does mention that Just Mortensen dies 1899. If that is true there may be an estate / probate record of some type about him some where. It doesn't appear that the estate records online for Romsdal go as far in time as 1899. But if the bygdebok for Eid doesn't have anything more on Børre, getting the estate record of Just might rule Børre Johnson in or out.

Osvald Rydjord's database:

Photos, especially if from Norway, would be good help.

One thought, if Brejohns can find family members of Just Mortensen who got married and had children and either them or more likely their grandchldren can be found, perhaps they could shed some light on what happened to the brothers Børre and Just. For example in the Family Tree link posted by Jackie, Martine Justdatter Siem married some one and had at least one child, Ole Henriksen Siem born 1881.

Back to Minnesota in the 1885 Minnesota Census. Expanding the birth year to 1859 +/- 5 for Joh* gives this Burre Johnson born 1856 living in Douglas County, Douglas is adjacent to Otter Tail where wife Alma was living about this time. And not to far from Clay County site of Barnesville MN where Borre Justesen was travelling to,

Minnesota, Territorial and State Censuses, 1849-1905
Name: Burre Johnson

Census Date: 1 May 1885
County: Douglas
Locality: Urness
Birth Location: Norway

Way interesting. There was a really detailed history published a few years back of people in Urness township in Douglas county. I'll have to take a look at it....

From an earlier posting.

quote:
Burre Johnson born 1856 living in Douglas

Probably not a candidate. In the Minnesota 1885 Census he is living with Hans and Karen Johnson. Most likely this is him in 1880 US Census and now listed as being born in Wisconsin. The rest of the children are similar or identical so I think this is him in 1880. Ages differ a lot between the two census documents but I still think it is the same person in both 1885 and 1880.

1880 United States Federal Census
Name: Burens Johnson

Darn

Yes, but I would go back to the quote of Jackie back many pages, that the solution to intractable problems are usually found in the US. I think that we will struggle with this search until we or actually Brejohns can find some connection between her Borre Johnson and some location in Norway.
