I received 10 pages from UND Special Collections. He sent them in an Adobe format, but I'm unable to cut and paste them. This drives me crazy because I'm able to cut and past Word documents. Since I do have JaneC's email address I did forward this file to her.

Looking at the 1865 Norwegian Census again. Here are the few males born from 1859 to 1861, first name starting with Bør, last name starting with either John or Jon or just.. There are not many and if memory serves me right, I think we have investigated all of them and dismissed most.

Børge Justesen deres Søn ug 1859 Eids Præstegjeld

Børe Johannesen deres Søn ug 1859 Ringsager Maybe Found in 1900 Nor Census

Børe Johansen Deres søn ug 1860 Fåberg Died 1874

Børe Jonassen deres Søn ug 1861 Høgsfjords Prgj. Found in 1900 Nor Census

Børre Johansen deres Søn ug 1859 Furnæs Found in 1900 Nor Census

Jane, I see we differ on the one from Ringsaker. Here is why I stated that maybe he was in the 1900 Norwegian Census. Maybe you can provide your info on his emmigragion. I think I am getting to the point with 15 pages of getting lost in the details.

Hi - oh I see you went back and started completing your list with the follow up findings for each candidate you posted. Good. Go ahead and consolidate the follow up findings in your own post, and I'll delete the stuff I found by trolling this thread for follow up info on each of those candidates. That way, no confusions.

Yes, it's a long thread, and easy to get lost.

This guy was posted on page 2, pretty much ruled out at that time due to immigration year (I thought this was the Børe from Ringsager you mention as being ruled out):
See #89, Børre Johannes, home place Ringsager, traveling with Johannes Børresen Østby:

I turned the pdf pages 1-8 into jpgs and emailed to Brenda and also jkmarler - and if anyone else writes to request , we can email the jpgs to you - or the PDF. The PDF file has more pages, some covering the history of this place and father of Just, etc. This is a work around because I am having trouble attaching them here (need you jwiborg)

I haven't reviewed the whole document. So far I have seen Borre mentioned as Just's child,
Morten born 1842
Karoline born 1847
Ane born 1850
Eli born 1853
Borre born 1859, Amerika 1882.
Just born 1865, Amerika 1884.

I will return to this project and fill in more transcription. Short story, quick review confirms findings, does not add info.

Could Børre be choosing the name "Son of Siem" = Samson?
Or, he's son of Just Siem = Siemson?

Yeah, it's possible I've seen that phenom before wherein a son named Erik whose father was not known in US was known for years by the surname of the family his mother married into (in effect his step family) and then suddenly started using "Minson" on his own. Family took it to mean "my son" that his mother had called him that.

There are a couple of farms with names that include "Samson", Samsonstuen in Land; and Samsonsletten (I forget where) and one I was looking at today similar sounding Stensønæs in Edø (they also have a John as the head of household).

In the 1865 census there is a Børsvend Johns. b. abt 1858 on Stensønæs. Here is his baptism (as Bersvend --the more common spelling of the name) and the 1865 census. His birthday is 11 June 1858:

#54 Bersvend Johns. Stensønæs b. 11 June 1858

Here's something new, the sister Ane fostered 2 of her sister's children, Ole Henriksen who we already knew about and Emma Andersdatter who was born in Ålesund who wasn't known before, at least not here.

Here's the baptism of the only Emma I found born in Ålesund in 1874, #21 Emma Arnolda b.22 Nov 1874 to parents Anders Iverson Øvrebo b. 1842 and Inger Anna Johnsdatter b. 10 Jan 1850 who married in Luster in 1872: Don't see any really familiar names so connection is not clear.

Here is an Emma Andersen 20 years leaving from Eid to Portland (Maine?) in 1894, might be her:
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=EMIKRUT&personpostnr=5216&merk=5216

Osvald Rydjord's database has Emma leaving for America in 1910.

Interesting, about the right age, and exact year of migration.

Here is the only Kari Andersdatter found in Lom 1817-1820 and her confirmation as Karen Andersdatter:
#51 Kari Andersdatter b. 17 Aug 1819 father is Anders Galde
Source information: Oppland county, Lom, Parish register (official) nr. 4 (1815-1825), Birth and baptism records 1819, page 45.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=9244&idx_id=9244&uid=ny&idx_side=-45

#23 Karen Andersdatter Confirmation
Source information: Oppland county, Lom in Lom, Parish register copy nr. 1 (1815-1836), Confirmation records 1833-1834, page 262.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=9243&idx_id=9243&uid=ny&idx_side=-219

UND also has the new (2002 +up) Lom bygdebøker might have information about Børre's mother's family if we can figure out a farm name worth searching.
