The 1801 Census shows a "Hans fader" Ole Halvorsen age 70, "mand" Halvar Olsen age 36 and "kone" Liv Johanesdat age 25. I believe these to be parents and grandparent of Johanes Halvorsen born 1793.
The Norwegian data base states the Residence as "Edingsaas Ovre" and the local parish as "Seude". Is "Seude" the same as "Sauherad"?
Would this location be the farm name? ....and if one wanted to visit this location in Norway where would it be?

- yes.

Johannes Halvorsen, born 1793, bapt Dec 22, #81.

The parents were living on Lansverk when he was born. (Liv was only 17 years old at that time)

Corporal Halvor Olsen, Akkerhougen and Liv Johanesdatter, Tveten were engaged to be married April 26 1793, #2.

Location of the farms on this map.

I'm re-introducing this topic hoping to find some information on my ancestors going back another generation ....or further. My interest is in Ole Halvorsen born 1731 (estimated) in Norway. He is shown as a 70 year old living with his son Halvar Olsen ...see previous entry on this post for details. I've tried reading parish records for Sauherad in the 1730 tp 1732 period but they are very difficult to decipher.Any suggestions? I'm looking for Ole's birthplace and parent's information.

Have you already checked in the books “Bygdebok for Sauherad” (5 volumes) ?

Those books have been copied to microfiche by the LDS Family History Library and can be ordered to any of their family history centers near to you.

May be a candidate for Halvor's father, Ole Halvorsen born ca 1731, on the following link:
http://gamlegjerpen.no/Kirkeb/Vielser/Sauherad1722_1766.htm

Marriages in Sauherad 1722-1766
Married 19 June 1760
Uk. (bachelor) Ole Halvorsen Acherhougen and pigen (unmarried woman) Maren Hansd. Valen.

The same website (Gamle Gjerpen) continues with Marriages in Sauherad 1767-1814, where Halvor Olsen Akkerhougen marriage is transcribed.

The name Halvor Olsen appears as witness for marriages:

8/11 1798 Greger Rollevsen Veyum to Helge Olsd. Akkerhougen
5/8 1802 Kittil Olsen Edingsaas to P Ingri Ingebrethsd. Gvaala
25/11 1802 Tollev Olsen Akkerhougen to Bergit Anders.
...and a groom Per Olsen Akkerhougen m. Guro Tollevs. Skobba 10/6 1802.

There may be more - maybe of interest as possible siblings.

This online family tree says Halvor Olsen Akkerhaugen was born 29.08. 1767
(and Liv Johannesdtr Sunsvallen was born 14.03.1771)
Link

This online family tree says Per Olsen Akkerhougen (the Per who married Guro Tollevsdatter Skobba on 10 June 1802) was born 1773 at Akkerhaugen, Sauherad to parents Ole Halvorsen (1732-1801) and Maren Hansdatter (1739-1794).
Link

On this link, a discussion of Per and his wife Guro and their family. With my just about non-existent Norwegian, I think it says Per's parents were "Ole Halvorson fra Gyving i Heddal gm Mari Hansdtr fra Gvåla"
Link

No original searching today - sorry. As always, online family trees can sometimes be wrong.

"where Halvor Olsen Akkerhougen marriage is transcribed" ...please explain what this means ...they were married in 1760 ....why would it show up in the 1767-1814 records ??

Edited later -oops I get it ...this is the sons marriage in the later records.....sorry

Could I get one of our Norwegian friends to translate link # 3 please. ..and thanks to you all for this information. JaneC is the Gamle Gjerpen a form of Bydgebok of Sauherad ? How accessible is this information on-line? ...there are several publications based on a period of time ? This is a great source of information! One thing I have learned from you JaneC is to find collaborative information on a person of interest to make sure one is on the right track. Based on the information in this forum ....what is your opinion that I have the right Halvor Olsen as the father of my Johannes Halvorsen ? As you might expect there are some family trees that don't agree with my findings. I really want this to be as definitive as possible so my family members can have confidence in their lineage.

Also ....another family tree has Maren Hansdatter Valen. born in Sweden as Maren Hansdatter Sunvallen. Is Valen. a farm in Norway? ....supposedly an abbreviation for something ??
