Right ! So my Johannes Halvorsen born 1787 from Seljord farm Rue is the wrong guy?? Do you think this is definitive Kare? I wasn't too concerned about the age difference ....but you are pointing out something pretty obvious that I had missed ....I always assumed Kleven was Gunild's farm name as she became known as "Grandma Kleven" .....but this information clearly labels Johannes as Kleven under Askilt. .......looks like I get to start once again ! |

Born ca 1792 plus/minus.
I believe he was born on farm Østerlie Midgaarden in Bø mentioned in the 1801 census on page 10. Age 13 b. ca 1788 plus/minus.

So the 1801 census also indicates Roklev.....which is a connection back to Halvor Jorgensen family ??? ....his parents ...this is a dilemma. |

Is this a likely scenario: Johannes Halvorsen born 1788 on farm Osterlie Midgarden in Boe to parents Halvor Jorgensen Roklev and Ingeborg Jensdat.., married as a bachelor from Kleven farm in 1818 to Gunild Nilsdat.??? is this logical ??
My Bydgebok contributor has Johannes born 1787 in Seljord on farm Rue.....the family moving to Boe sometime close to 1793. ....he could have been born in Seljord and was 13 years old during the 1801 census of Boe when they were living on Osterlie Midgarrden ...having made the move from Seljord ....is this a possibility ? |

Johannes Halvorson b @1788 living on Østerli in 1801 was not born in Bø, he was born in Seljord. |

Halvor Jørgensson arrived at Raukleiv under Medgarden Østerli in 1792, that is after the birth of Johannes Halvorsen if he was born in 1788. They rented the place ie husmannsplass from Halvor Kittilsson. They did not stay long as in 1820 a new owner is listed for the place.
This is from the Bygdebok Bø-Saga II, which I accessed today. I have not had a chance to look over the full article yet, but when I do I will sumarize it. A quick look did not give me what I was looking for. I had hoped that the book would tell me who Johannes Halvorsen was married to. Unfortunately it did not.
According to the bygdebok both Halvor Jørgenssen and wife Anne Jonsdatter died in 1815. Which may explain why the family was no longer on the place in 1820.
Here is basically what is listed in the bygdebok for family information.
Ætta 1. Halvor Jørgensson f. 1737 d. 1815 g. m. Anne Jørgensdtr. Born, Helge g. m. Gert Olavsson
Halvor g.2.g.m.
Ingeborg Jonsdtr. f. Ca. 1762 d. Ca. 1815 Born, Anne f. Ca. 1782 g. m. Knut Ivarsson i Kophøl Jørgen f. ca. 1785 Johannes f. Ca. 1787 Bergit f. 21.8.1793 Gunhild f. 20.4. 1796 g.m. Halvor Olavsson Lihegna

Now it begins to lighten: Rødklev was a sub farm under Østerlie Midgaarden.
There were three Østerlie farms in Bø and Østerlie Midgaarden was the "Central farm in the Eastern hillside.

This is encouraging ...I have Knud Kophoe (Anne Halvorsdat.. b 1782 husband ) showing as godparent for Nils Johannesen b 1822 ....son of Johannes Halvorsen and Gunild Nilsdat.
edited to read correctly: Anne Halvorsdat. ....daughter of Halvor Jorgensen and Ingeborg Jensdat.

This makes a connection between the generations. Please confirm I have this name correct as a godparent of Nils Johannesen. |

Why are we reposting links that have already been posted on pg 3, pg 4 etc. of this topic? It appears we are chasing our own tails.... |

There is a lot of information here Jackie and I realise that I'm only one person who is pleading for help from you veterans. Some repetition is hard to avoid. I appreciate everyone's contributions. If re-posting is what it takes to keep everyone current I'm okay with that. |
