.
First of all - please use Permanent pagelink which facilitate improved zooming, (Permanent imagelink only gives one possibility)
2nd the page was 245 - not 295 (cause too small for correct reading in Permanent imagelink.)

Iver Knudsen, Rasmus Halstensen, Halvor Gundersen, Helge Lia, Kari Berge.

I don't see anything in the Knud Iversen/Anne Halvorsdatter witness list of their babies that helps to connect the Johanes Halvorsen/Gunild Nisdat Kleven family. Lots of familiar names but living in the same community you would expect that.

Again, I'm trying to find support for my belief that my ancestor Johannes Halvorsen (who married Gunild Nilsdat Klleven) is the same Johannes Halvorsen ....son of Halvor Jorgensen and Ingeborg Jensdat.

Some good cross-over of witnesses for Johannes and Gunilds babies ....not sure that is enough to make a final decision ?? Any comments or advise on this?

With Ane Knudsdatter husband Erik Jonnson Helland having such fame as a fiddle maker one might expect that there would be a good genealogy on that family. I've found only one and Ane's heritage on the Helland site is "not known" .

I think it's still the right path to follow even if it appears there isn't an overwhelming familial connection in the faddernes (i.e. Johannes Halvorson named as one of the faddernes in one or more of the sibling's children baptisms.) There is enough of similar names that there probably is a connection other than just being neighbors.

A Gunild appears in several of the faddernes' lists, though Jørgen Halvorson doesn't.

The Anne m to Knud Ivarson, her children named in order are:
Ingeborg (after her potential mother), Ivar (after her father-in-law), Halvor (after her potential father) and the last girl is Ane (after her mother-in-law).

Johannes's children in order are Halvor (the first boy after his father),
Nils (after Johannes' father in law) and the first girl is Ingeborg (after Johannes' mother).

Names are a customary thing, a custom in use from about 1750-1850 in Norway and other places in Europe. Some people follow customs, some people don't, just like today.

The best record of connection which should be available is the probate of Halvor Jørgenson. Write to the arkivet and ask them to find it, since it is sourced in the bygdebok, even if is or isn't online, you should want a copy of it to put the matter to rest.

Thank you Jackie. You've been a great source of positive encouragement on this topic. I was feeling like this was going no place but you're often able to pull out bits of pertinent information that I often miss. Keep up the good work ...this forum is fortunate to have veterans like you who genuinely care.

I've sent out some emails to other genealogists who might shed some light on my Johannes & Gunild. I'll let you know if I get anything enlightening.

How do I contact arkivet re. the probate info?

Think I got it. Just use this email?
