My great-grandfather is Tormode Hegge, born in 1910 possibly in Stenkjĉr. The family story has always been that baby Tormode was sick when the family was immigrating to Canada, and they therefore were kept from going on the Titanic and had to take "the next boat". I always took the story with a grain of salt, but I DID recently find his immigration record-- he was on the Tunisian just a couple of months after that fateful journey, so who knows? *lol*

Tormod's parents were Theodor Olaf Nicolaison Hegge born in 1884 in Stod, and Maren Anna Karoline Florstad born in 1881 in Otteroen. Theodore left for Canada ahead of the family in 1910, and Maren and the children (Ragna, Arthur, Tormod) joined him in 1912.

Maren's parents according to records are Morten Olsen Skrovstad and Margarethe Mathiasdtr. I'd like to locate them and their parents in the records at some point...

I'm not positive about Teodor's parents, but I think this record may be him. If so, his father would be Nicolai Olsen born 1846 in Snaasen? Ann O born in 1936 would be his mother?

I would so very much appreciate any assistance from someone more familiar with Norwegian archives! I'm new to researching this line, and the possible locations and names and spelling variations have me on shaky ground. If anyone can help me "check my work" so to speak, and find additional records, I would be so very grateful. Thanks in advance!

Thank you, that was quick!

Tormod did seem to alternately go by Tormod(e) or Tomas, and later Tom (and possibly "Thor" as a nickname, maybe a joke or mistake) in Canada. Are the two names equivalent?

Wow! You are amazing! You've helped me so much, I can't express my gratitude enough! (And how quickly you've done it!)

I've been trying to find information on and off for a few years on this branch of the family tree, and I'm finally breaking down the proverbial brick wall. I know that I also have a Hegge cousin elsewhere in Canada who has been trying to do this research. I'm excited to share this thread with her; all the direct links to sources are soooo wonderful!

I have never been so impressed with the internet! And with Norwegians!
