The Marit Olsdatter b. in Lom came to US in 1883 apparently by herself. She is #1 in 1883 right hand page, headed for Minnesota:

From the Emigranter fra Trondheim database, she is headed for St. James which is in Watonwan county, Minnesota!

Wally, you've searched the other side of the family in Lom. What do you know about the family of Brit Torkjelsdatter, Peter Lien's mother? Did she have a sister or half sister named Inga or Ingeri?

Looking at what seems to be the birth record of Ingri, I do not see the wife as being named Anne?

Heh, heh. A man with 2 watches is never really sure what time it is!
I searched line by line through the Lom marriages from 1812-1821 and found none between Torkild Nielson and Anne. Seeing the two entries in the flesh makes me think that the pastor and the clerk didn't get together to examine and resolve the differences in their books. Bakkeberg is the farm name in the marriage record of Ingri and the family residence when possible Marit was born. So it appears that possible Marit's mother Ingri was a probable full sister of Peter Lien's mother Brit, meaning that Peter and Marit were first cousins if true. Possible Marit's ticket was paid to America and the time frame is tight, landing in America latter part of May 1883 and married in July 1883. It does happen that people marry quickly upon arrival but such a quick watershed is facilitated if the family is already familiar--related. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it! |
