Harald Strand was born in Namsos 1880, and left from Norway November 14th 1906, bound for Laramie, Wyoming.

He was involved in railroad work.

His family in Norway lost contact with him, but descendants in Norway would now like to know what happened.

Are there anyone who have information about this man?

Was he born 16 June 1880 and was his middle name Olaf? If so this might be him in the World War I draft registration:

In the 1900 census he still lives in Namsos, in "Sverres Gade", then married to Regine Strand, born 1877 in Kolvereid.

It looks like he died in Seattle in 1958: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NQM2-MB6
His mother's name is written Alisa in stead of Elise.

Here's a transcription of that World War I Draft Registration:

Harold Olaf Strand
c/o Sawyer Goodman Co. (Company) in Alpha, Mich. (Michigan)
Age 38, born 16 June 1880
Non-declarant Alien (has not filed for US citizenship)
Laborer
Nearest Relative: Regina Strand (wife), Nemssas, Norway
Signature: Harald Strand
Medium height, medium build, brown eyes, light brown hair
Registered by: Local Board for the County of Marinette, Wisconsin 9/11/1918
Image here

Some information about Sawyer Goodman Co. here
Seems the company was a logging and mining railroad.

In the 1940 census (posted by Anton), in Seattle, King, Washington, Harold Strand age 59 is a laborer in the
railroad industry

Here is a Harold G. Strand from Namsos, Norway, born 1888, discharged in 1919 in Washington state. An odd coincidence.

There are more persons called Harald Strand. I think there are several, but here at this topic, there is at least one listed: I searched, and found Harald Gotfred Strand from Flatanger near Namsos, born November 16th 1887. This is another man. He was born at the farm Hilstad in Flatanger, christened January 1st 1888 in Vik, South Flatanger, and was listed as emigrated in the 1910 census in Norway. At that time he was in a place called Stanwood.

So there is at least two Harald/Harold Strand, and Harald Gotfred Strand born 1887 is another man than the one we are looking for.

Yes, it's very clear from the posted records the difference in the two Harolds. No one was confused about that.

muinn, have you found your Harold in the 1910 or 1920 US census?

No, I have not been able to find him in the 1910 and 1920 censuses. I guess they are both fully transcribed and searchable. Is it possible that the name has been transcribed in a way that makes it hard to find in searches?
