Thank you for your work,it looks like the Meland folks sure got around,both Johannes and Knut served in the US army,we know for a fact that Knut were involved in the D-day,but he wouldnt talk about it after the war,one can only imagine,where do i go to search records on his his military record,are there any archives or resourves online that? Many thanks.

There is a website called Fold3 that has US military information. It is a subscription database but is sometimes available at US public libraries and LDS Family History Centers for the free use of patrons in those establishments.

Here is some information on how to obtain some military informaton.

Obtaining Military Records
Recent military service and medical records are not online. However, most veterans and their next-of-kin can obtain free copies of their DD Form 214 (Report of Separation) and other records several ways:
Use the eVetRecs system to create your request OR
Mail or Fax a Standard Form SF-180
Learn more about requesting military service records

On the page that shows up when you click on the link below use the data base found under eVetRecs secton. The form is long and complex and you will need the information provided in some of my posts such as the Social Security Number and it does ask for a Service Number for Knut but I think the form will work if you use the Social Security Number and leave the Service Number slot blank.
