What is the source of your information about the child?

Which Stavanger church records have you already checked? There were several different congregations in that city - which were already checked and for what years?

Looking back in the Ancestry.com data base to 1885 the earliest child recorded for this couple in the Ancestry.com record is .

Name: Bergit Josefine Torgersen Nesse
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 1 jan 1897
Birth Place: Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway
Baptism Date: 21 feb 1897
Baptism Place: Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway
Father's Age: 1873
Mother's Age: 1866
Father: Johannes Torgersen Nesse
Mother: Nille Amalie Josefsen
FHL Film Number: 1282679
Reference ID: Bk4 P128 Cn22

Also see number 22 in Domkirken, the correct date may be Jan 1, 1897.

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6334&idx_id=6334&uid=ny&idx_side=-136

Odly enough there is another record similar to this except for the dates.

Name: Bergit Josefine Torgersen Naesse
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 10 jan 1897
Baptism Date: 21 feb 1897
Baptism Place: Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway
Father's Age: 1873
Mother's Age: 1866
Father: Johannes Torgersen Naesse
Mother: Nille Amalie Torgersen
FHL Film Number: 1283365
Reference ID: BK1 P145 CN22

The record for Nikolai is also in this data base.

- the difference is most likely misreading of the "Ministerialbok" that I posted earlier. The "Klokkerbok" posted by Anton gave less possibility for misreading.

My posting of the baptismal record for Bergit Josefine was to establish which Church would most likely have the death record asked for, but not yet found.
