I have been looking for Anders Nicolas Petersen Ljungkvist for quite some time now and are just to give up! Anders Nicolas Petersen Ljungkvist, born Apr.19.1866 in Skalmeja, Skaraborg Sweden. Married in Norway 1892 to Anna Karoline Andersen Haug. They got four children and they lived in Kristiania Norway.. He immigratet to Amerika as a norwegian : Citing this Record: "New York, Passenger Arrival Lists (Ellis Island), 1892-1924," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JF2N-LZN : accessed 29 April 2015), A. Ljungquist, 16 Sep 1902; citing departure port Glasgow, arrival port New York, ship name Laurentian, NARA microfilm publication T715 and M237 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.). That is the last we know of him! His Family never heard from him again. I have searched all US Census in every state from 1900-1920. I have searched on Familysearch, Cindys list, My Herritage, Brooklyn lost & found, NO LUCK! Maybe somone can help me before I give up! He had a name that could vary a lot, Ljungkvist, Ljungqvist, Ljungquist. Anders, Andrew. and his middle name Niklas, Nicolaus, Nic and may more. Not easy! |

Searching for your guy, I came across your earlier post in DIS. I am posting the link as the information there coulld be of some help to us here in the US. I was especially interested in your comment about Hans Haug returning to Norway, the confirmation of one of Anders children with the corss and your guess that perhaps he had died some where between 1902 and 1915.

Searching this site "All New York, New York, Death Index, 1862-1948" on Ancestry.com, using Anders born 1866 plus/minus 2, died 1912 plus/minus 10 years, turns up 434 names. However none of those with a last name beginning with L looked very promising. And only one of the Petersens or Petersons looked promising. This one.
Andrew Pettersen in the New York, New York, Death Index, 1862-1948 Name: Andrew Pettersen Birth Year: abt 1865 Age: 45 Death Date: 8 Sep 1910 Death Place: Kings, New York, USA Certificate Number: 18322 Purchase Certificate
The 1910 Census seems to have taken place in Brooklyn about April of 1910, so it may be possible to find him in that census if he were still alive. |

Thank you for helping me! It could well be this man. It is a pitty that the birthdate never is comlete, if so we could easely have nailed the right man, if he was borne Apr. 19 1866. I still think he had an early death, because: His wife, Anna Karoline died in february 1906, she was not a widow in the .death report then. When his daughter Ragnhild Amalie died in 1911 (on her fathers 45. bithday!) only the fathers name was noted in the Church book. When his next daughter, Jenny Pauline Adelheid died Apr. 11 1915, there was no relatives to be found! (She still had two brothers alive, but all the children was foster-children in different homes from Des. 5 1905, 3 mnd. before their mother died, When the 3.sibling died, Hans William, April 25. 1921 the only relative was his youngest brother Rudolf Edvin. No mention of the father after Ragnhilds passing in 1911. Next question: Is it possible to find lists of passangers that returned to Norway from the US? If Anders Ljungqvist returned to Norway after 1910 (Census) it is difficult to find him. Takk for hjelpen og håper på svar igjen.. Bodil |

Passenger lists are filed, if required, in the country in which a person lands, not with the country one leaves. The "police" lists in Norway are not truly passenger lists (a list of people who are onboard a specific ship)but function that way, at least for genealogists Perhaps if he did go back to Norway he might be found in outmigrating England lists since he is likely to have gone back through England or Great Britain.
Did any siblings, aunts, uncles and the like (other than the brother-in-law) come to America? Did his parents have dødfallsprotokol after 1902?

The birth year is a little off and Anders Ljungqvist is really not that rare of a name in Sweden but here is a travel record. He lists he age as 33 which is where the birth year comes from, he is also listed as travelling without wife or family.

The Cedric arrived in New York on May 4, 1913. I only found two names on a very long list that seemed to be of interest. However the original manifest that is shown with these names does not correspond to the names so I cannot use the original manifest to obtain more information on these people.
Name: Anders David Sgunkist Arrival Date: 4 May 1913 Birth Date: abt 1880 Birth Location: Sweden Birth Location Other: molala Age: 33 Gender: Male Ethnicity/ Nationality: Scandinavian Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Cedric
The second person with a name close to Anders is
Name: Andres Arrival Date: 4 May 1913 Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Port of Arrival: New York, New York Ship Name: Cedric

I have seen Anders Ljungquist born about 1880 earlier. I think 14 years is too much of a difference from 1866, and there was somthing els too, that I don't remember right now that made me erase him from my list. And thats the problem with nuber two, too, he's too young. There were no other family members that went to Amerika, other then Hans Haug. I will try the outmigration list to England. Thank you again for helping me! This guy is quite a nut to crack! Bodil |

They are not two, but probably the same man. I am assuming that the arrival dates and birth years are not completely correct. So far I have not found him in either the 1900 or 1930 US Census. |

This could be him in the 1905 New York Census.Living in a place called Olsen Hotel, probably owned by Victor Olsen, also from Sweden.
Andrew Petersen in the New York, State Census, 1905 Name: Andrew Petersen Birth Year: abt 1865 Birth Place: Sweden Age: 40 Gender: Male Race: White Residence Year: 1905 Residence: Brooklyn, Kings, New York, USA Relationship to Head: Boarder Assembly District: 07 Election District: 36 Household Members: Name Age Victor Olsen 39 Elizabeth Anderson 44 Walter Stewart 38 Gus Anderson 37 Andrew Petersen 40 Charles Dorsch 33 Julius Mann 38
I found Victor Olsen in the 1910 Census, he is married with one young child but no sign of any Andrew Petersen.
