Thank you Vivi , your comments make me feel much more comfortable that Jørgine could have met a Hakon in Oslo before she left. Now which Hakon? The only Hakon found in New York in the 1900 time frame fits fairly well is the Hakon Emil Ericksen. Jackie has posted a link to the 1885 Census showing that a Hakon Emil Ericksen was living in Kristiania on that time. However Jørgine would have been only 10.
A brief summary of what I think we know about Hakon Emil Ericksen. Not a for sure id means that he is not using the middle name Emil.
Hakon Emil Ericksen 1864 Born Hakon Emil Carlsen, Akershus fits marriage Digitalarkivet
1865 Living in Kristiania with family using Eriksen Digitalarkivet 1875 Living in Akershus called Hakon Emil Eriksen Census Family Search 1885 Living in Kristiania Norwegian Census Hakon Emil Digitalarkivet 1887 Emigrant from Krisitiania (not a for sure id) Digitalarkivet 1895 Married to Hilma, his father is Carl Ericksen Family Search 1900 Traveling to NY in Feb, US Citizen lived in US 13 yrs Ancestry 1900 Living in Manhatten as a widower with son Hjalmar US Census 1903 Married to Anna Christiansen in Richmond NY Ancestry 1910 Living in Richmond NY with second wife Anna US Census

Don't underestimate the old tyme method of meeting via correspondence. And Hakon can be spelled many ways: Haakon, Hakon, Hagen, Haagen, Håken, Håkon, etc.
What about the sister Nicoline who went to Canada when was that? |

Here is Hakon Ericksen travelling from New York to England. I would assume he then would go on to Norway next. He lists his occupation as metal polisher, similar to the occupations Hakon Emil Ericksen has listed in various US records. No son with him, you wonder who is taking care of Hjalmar.

This gives a clarified meaning to his occupation as "polisher." |
