Hi again, I have a new person I am trying to get more information on. His name was Erik/Eric Andersen (possible incorrect last name) His mother was Maren Olava Larsdatter. She was born 1837/1838/1839 (conflicting information) in Naes Eie. Her father was Lars Jensen(he was born 1818ish) When my gr gr grandfather married her , she already had a son, listed as Erik Andersen. He was supposed to be born in 1858-1859. I cannot find whom his birth father was, no record of birth or Christening that I can locate. Maren died a few months after giving birth to her and Berns daughter, Elise Fredrikke Berntsen on February 27,1865. I have all the records for their marriage, Elise's birth and Maren's death, but after the 1875 census, I cannot find anyhting further on Erik/Eric. So here I am again, looking to verify maybe that he died, left Norway, married... anything else I can find on here. |

Do you have a link to the 1875 Census record you refer to above for Erik Andersen? |

Widower Erik Andersen and his stepson Bernt Andersen on Baarlidalen in 1865 link I can not find ny of them in the 1875 census, but the church books burned in a fire 1877, perhaps they already had left Eidsvoll.
Eriks half- sister Elise Fredrikke Berntsdatter lived as fosterdaughter on Baarlidalen 1875.

Amy - What is your source for saying that Maren was the mother of Erik Andersen?
The church records for Eidsvoll that would include Erik's birth/baptism record were destroyed in a fire. As Kåre has shown above Erik is listed in Eidsvoll, Akershus for the 1865 census born about 1858 in that district.
You've said you found Erik in the 1875 census... exactly where was that?
Ancestral File has at least two online submissions for Bernt and Maren but is poorly sourced and hard to trust because of that. https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/2:1:M1LH-ZC2 Note that Erik is not mentioned in that family information. |

In the confirmands list in Eidsvold is a boy Erik Jensen born 05 Dec 1859, born at Næseie, residence in 1876 Baarlidalen (as it looks to me, but spelled a little differently in this transcription): http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/kb/kf/person/pk00000000619172
Could it be the census taker in 1865 has simply assigned 7-year-old Erik the same last name as Bernt, and the surname is a mistake?
Amy, you see Erik "listed as Erik Andersen," but where? The 1865 census only? When working with a forum the words "I have..." have limited value. It's what "we have" here in the forum that counts, when it's the forum who's searching. This comment is meant as helpful and I hope you don't mind it. |

Hi everyone,
Bernt was married to Erik's mother Maren. I originally thought that they had Erik's last name incorrectly as Andersen, but then thought maybe his father's name was Anders ***. I did find an Erik Jensen born in 1859 in their domicile. So I thought maybe that was his true last name. That Erik was born 05-12-1859 in Naeseie(just like Maren Olava his mother). His residence was listed as Borlidlen. |

The 1875 census is definitely him, under him is Bernt's father and brother, Anders Engebretsen and Andreas Anderson. |

You are right, the Borlidalen farms was settled by almost one family.
There were two Borlidalen farms in 1875, the first owned by Engebret Hansen where Erik lived (his fathers firstname was Jens) as errandboy link On the second farm owned by Hans Engebretsen (probably Engebrets father) lived Eriks half sister Elise Fredrikke Berntsdatter link
In 1865 Erik and his stepfather Bernt Andersen lived on farm Borlidalen/Baarlidalen owned by Bernts parents; Anders Engebrektsen and Fredrikke Engebrektsdatter.

I have also found this, do you agree that this is the Erik Jensen I am searching for?
I am a little confused here. This record is from Nord-Audnedal an area in the county of Vest-Agder. Most of what you have on Erik Jensen above is from the county of Akershus, they are not very close to one anoth
Are you saying that this Erik Jensen Høyland getting married in 1882 and listed as having been born in Tofteland i Kvås (also in Vest-Agder) is the same person as the Erik Jensen listed in the 1875 Census as having been born in Eidsvoll? |

Hi Lyndal,
I dont think that is the correct one. I dug a little deeper and didnt make the connection. I am not in Norway and am not familiar with locations, so I get too excited about possibilities before I can actually confirm them:) |
