Kristian Jensen Herregaarden emigrated from Norway to America in 1910. After a year or two he returned to Norway (to his birthplace Holla). I have found his way to USA, but I canīt find out about his way back to Norway.
How and when did he get back to Norway? He must have returned before May 1912.
He was born November 7th 1889 in Holla/Hollen/Holden in Norway. Son of Jens Jacobsen Herregaarden and Gunhild Maria Aslaksdatter.
Here he is in the norwegian 1900 cencus: http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/ft/person/pf01037168000719
He left Norway September 17th 1910 with S/S Tasso: http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/gen/vis/8/pe00000001118468
Here is the arrival of Kristian Jensen into the US through Massachusetts:
Kristian Jensen in the Massachusetts, Passenger and Crew Lists, 1820-1963 Name: Kristian Jensen Gender: Male Ethnic Background: Norwegian Estimated birth year: abt 1889 Birth Place: Hollen, Norway Age: 21 Port of Departure: Liverpool, England Ship Name: Cymric Arrival Date: 29 Sep 1910 Port of Arrival: Boston, Massachusetts Friend's Name: Jacob Jensen Last Residence: Norway
More registrations of his life in US (Illinois) and his way back to Norway is appreciated. |

His migration record shows that he is going to his brother. Where did his brother live?
It appears that his father (as a widower) and sister came to US in 1928 to Geneva Illinois. Did they stay forever or go back to Norway too?
Well Ingeborg came again in 1956, her destination is 724 Benton St Aurora Illinois the exact address of Jacob Gordon. Found at Ellis island website.
Jacob Gordon in 1920 census, single: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJ4C-SB3
Possibly a brother Jakob who came to US in 1906, here in 19201930 census: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XSY1-R38
This Jacob Gordon b 28 June 1884 in Ulefos Norway in "old man" draft in 1942: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:V1KM-XW6
Jacob Gordon is in findagrave: http://findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=gordon&GSfn=jacob&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSst=16&GScnty=734&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=110135268&df=all&
Jacob Jenson Herregaarden #18 (same birthdate as Jacob Gordon in US): Source information: Telemark county, Holla in Holla, Parish register copy nr. I 5 (1891-1917), Confirmation records 1898, page 270. Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=5628&idx_id=5628&uid=ny&idx_side=-278
Geneva Illinois is the county seat in Kane county Illinois. Aurora where Jacob Gordon lived is in Kane county. The reason to find Kristian's family in US is to find exactly where he might have been for a year and half. Kristian misses the 1910 U.S. census, and since the time is so limited in US it's likely to come down to if he served as faddernes to his brother's kids or witness at his brother's wedding or is reported in a local newspaper,
As far as the trip back, most likely Kristian will follow the same route back to Norway only reversed: big transatlantic ship into Great Britain and then small feeder ship back to Norway. Some of Britain's outgoing records might tell about that part of the return to Norway (Ancestry has some of these) but as Hopkins points out no requirement for ship list filings in US as ship leaves. Also Norway doesn't appear to have any landing records (passenger list filings) when the ship comes back. |

Thanks a lot!
Your information about Kristian's brother Jacob, sister Ingerborg and their father is correct. Ingeborg visited in the USA two times, one time together with her father.
I see that finding Kristian's way back to Norway is very difficult... |
