I have since 2006 heard about a tragedy happened in Grand Forks, ND in the fall 1884.
It was a family of 5, mother, father and 3 children, mother was in high pregnancy with the 4th baby. They arrived America two years before the tragedy happened.
In end of August 1884 father killed mother, and a couple of days later he killed himself. Father was Knut Anderson Moe, mother Inga Moe.
3 children left alone.
The oldest girl was Marie (Mary?), she was born Nov 23 1878
Then Martha, she was born June 21 1880, but I have located all the information about her. Her descendants have no ideas about her siblings.
Then Anders/Andreas/Andrew, he was born February 16 1882.
So the question is, where was Marie and Anders raised?
I have tried many different ways to locate them, but until now, nothing have been a success.
There is no info to locate in the probate records, so the only solution I have, is that maybe, maybe, someone have heard about this tragedy, and about the children. Maybe some old people from the area Grand Forks

I have found a "servant" called Mary Neutsen, no age for her. She was in Grand Forks 1885....but how can I find more info about her???

And I have located an Andrew, it could possible be the right one, but is it possible to locate information about this parents and their son? Maybe someone can try to locate an obituary for Andrew? I think it is him I found in a churchrecord (ELCA) confirmation in Minnesota 1897 (it was written that he was born in Grand Forks, ND). Parents names was Halvor Thompson and Julia Thompson. It is at least the same birthdates on the headstone and in the churchrec....And probably him I found in the Census for 1900, as a servant in a Marsden family. At least the same name, and born the same month/year.

Not sure you've seen this before. The coroner's reports are searchable in a database at Chester Fritz Library and online. The actual records have limited availability. You could contact the Special Collections area of the University of North Dakota Chester Fritz Library:

Date Name Location Box Folder Inquest #

30 Aug 1884 Inger Moe Northwood 1 72 Unnumbered report.
Death sometime prior to above date of inquest

31 Aug 1884 Knute A. Moe Chester Township 1 73 Unnumbered report.

Even though Knute was thought to have done the deed, there is an interesting newspaper account in which the children left at the house were reported to have had contact with a different set of adults prior to the actual discovery of their mother's body who were not their father. Knute had apparently had some difficulty with his neighbors..

Interesting to me is that my great great great grandparents, great great grandparents and great grandmother lived in Lind Township in Grand Forks county when the events occurred. Unfortunately they are all long, long gone.

Post some links to the person you think might be the son. Grand Rapids is a different place than Grand Forks county.

Here is what Wikipedia says about Grand Rapids, North Dakota:

Not everyone has a subscription to Ancestry.com so most viewers probably cannot see your link. But here is a link to the Find-A-Grave site.

Here is a confirmation record for Andrew Thompson. Perley, Minnesota is in Norman County. Birth place of the confirmed child is listed as Grand Forks County, North Dakota.

The birth date for this person is not an exact match for the date given by the OP for her Anders.

Event Type: Confirmation
Birth Date: 12 Feb 1882

The 1885 census is the closest record to the date of the events in which you might find the children. But there are some things to understand. In Grand Forks County, something like 10 pages of entries are missing of people living in Grand Forks County. The three generations of my family mentioned earlier are not found in the 1885 census, but they were there from 1882.

When did the family migrate? Were the children all born in Norway?

I have posted a lot of information on the Andrew Thompson that the OP feels could be the same person as Anders, Andreas, Andrew son of Knute Andersen Moe and wife Inger. However there are a lot of And* born 1882 plus/minus 2 that can be found in the 1885 North Dakota Census. Question for the OP is why does she think this particular person is the correct one?

This is probably the 1885 census record for M Moe referenced by the OP in her Roots Web post. Four year old child reads M Moe in the census original document.
