Not sure you've seen this before. The coroner's reports are searchable in a database at Chester Fritz Library and online. The actual records have limited availability. You could contact the Special Collections area of the University of North Dakota Chester Fritz Library:

Date Name Location Box Folder Inquest #

30 Aug 1884 Inger Moe Northwood 1 72 Unnumbered report.
Death sometime prior to above date of inquest

31 Aug 1884 Knute A. Moe Chester Township 1 73 Unnumbered report.

Even though Knute was thought to have done the deed, there is an interesting newspaper account in which the children left at the house were reported to have had contact with a different set of adults prior to the actual discovery of their mother's body who were not their father. Knute had apparently had some difficulty with his neighbors..

Interesting to me is that my great great great grandparents, great great grandparents and great grandmother lived in Lind Township in Grand Forks county when the events occurred. Unfortunately they are all long, long gone.

Post some links to the person you think might be the son. Grand Rapids is a different place than Grand Forks county.

Here is what Wikipedia says about Grand Rapids, North Dakota:

Thank you to all of you for your findings! :-)

jkmarler: very interesting that some of your ancestors lived in Lind twp! And you have never heard about an adopted child in your family? ;-)

I think that one of the reasons for not finding people in the Census (digitalized one), is that the writers did a very bad job!! If you look to the original Census you will find that many pg. are impossible to read. Martha Moe (the daughter in the middle) is registered as M Mal, even it is possible to read that there is written Moe in the original...

I am not sure that this Andrew are the correct one, but he is one of _all_ Andrew etc I have checked these 10 years :-P

Even there is written that this Andrew was born in ND, it might be the right one, Martha (or the one who gave info to the writer of the Census) was not sure were she was born. Acc to the Census 1900 she was born in June 1880, but arrived in 1878, born in Norway.

In Census 1910 she is married to Alonzo Calderwood, and called Mattie, there it is told that she was born in United States, parents birthplace unknown.

In Census 1920 (she died one year later) she is devorced from Alonzo, have to children, and are remarried to Louis Kaufman, and said to be born in ND, by Norwegian parents....

About the registration of the emigration from Norway, I have seen the same about these two Martha, but I think the reason would be found in the original, probably bad writing...

Thank you very much!!

This was much more than I could expect!!

Someone who know if it is possible to locate more information about this man?

I guess it will be complicate,as he looks like to be unmarried/without children.

Is it possible to try to locate his older/younger siblings birthrecord, then we could see the distance between them and him, in one census his older brother looks to be quite close him in age....

I believe that the Thomas and Carrie at the top of the ticket were from Hol(Aal) Hallingdal. They are found buried in North Ringsaker Cemetery in Belmont Twp SE1/2, Sec 9 of Traill county as:
Torger Thompson
20 Feb 1820 -7 Feb 1899
Kari Thompson

The bygdebøker for both Aal and Hol have only fragmentary information about the family. According to Holsboka Torgeir Torgeirson Sveinsgard and wife and one child left Norway in 1857. Torgeir was a member of a large family and has many siblings spread across Iowa, Minnesota and North Dakota.

There is also a Gurine Thompson buried in the cemetery above with the dates: Sept 19, 1865- Mar 9, 1945 and so seems youngish to be Julia. There is no Halvor Thompson with a marker in the cemetery.

There is in the ELCA funerals database a Halvor Thompson aged 68 dying in 1907 in Fosston Minnesota which makes his birthyear about 1839, so possible but where is he when Julia and kids are in Clay county, Minnesota in 1895, 1900?

Halvor Thompson's land in Traill county is in a township right on the Red River about 2 miles west of Climax Minnesota which may explain why family pastoral acts are recorded in a Perley Minnesota church.

Your candidate Mattie Calderwood in Saskatchewan in 1911:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVB8-RS8V

Interesting here is her marriage record transcribed, maiden name as Moe:
County: Ward
Groom: Calderwood, Alonzo R. Bride: Moe, Martha
Date License Issued: 7/4/1902 Certificate Number:

Here is putative Mattie's putative daughter Georgia in the 1930 census:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:X4H6-899

Georgia again in 1920 census:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MFQZ-XJ7

Very probable candidate for Georgia although birthplace recorded as Ohio in 1940. The daughter Patricia when marrying in 1952 states he mother's maiden name as "Calterwood":
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KW8L-K8K

Here in SSDI her birthdate given as 11 Aug 1911:

It looks like that the children have been born very close to each other in this family, because this looks to be Ole:

Ole Thompson
Birth Date: 16 Jan 1881
Birth Place: North Dakota, USA
Death Date: 2 Sep 1903
Death Place: Perley, Norman County, Minnesota, USA
Cemetery: Bethania Lutheran Church Cemetery
Burial or Cremation Place: Perley, Norman County, Minnesota, USA

So I guess this Andrew too, is a wrong one....

A interesting detail: Ole was born in Traill, ND in January 1881, Andrew is written (in the confirmationrecord) to be born in Grand Forks co, ND!

Can this be a detail which tells us something very important? Or were their next child too born in GF, ND?
