Can anyone find any trace of Birgit Knudsen born approximately 1863 in Norway? I took the spelling of her name from the marriage certificate when she married Andreas A. Lubeck in the county of Nicollet, in the state of Minnesota, USA 11-19-1891.He was 42 she was 28.
The only information I have of her is stated above. Thank You.

There is this Bergit Knudtson in Nicolett County in the 1870 Census. Father is Ole age 46 and mother is Borghild age 34.

Bergit Knudtson
in the 1870 United States Federal Census
Name: Bergit Knudtson
Age in 1870: 10
Birth Year: abt 1860
Birthplace: Norway
Home in 1870: New Sweden, Nicollet, Minnesota
Race: White
Gender: Female
Post Office: Horseland

However I have found a Family Tree on Ancestry.com that shows she married a Rasmus Nygaard and died in 1911. So does not fit your Bergit.

Birget Knutson
BIRTH MARCH 14, 1860 • Aal Hallingdal, Norway
DEATH DECEMBER 1, 1911

Hi lyndal
I find this interesting because when her son Adolph died, his funeral was held in the Brighton Swedish Lutheran Church.

Birgit had already passed on 08-27-1906. I can't find a record of where she is buried.

A newspaper article that the Historical Society sent to me said "Mrs. A Lubeck of New Sweden died at the hospital.....Her remains were taken back to her home." I tried to find what the population of New Sweden would have been in 1870ish. I haven't been able to find that out. I wondered what the chance would be that there would be two Birgit Knudsen's in that area.

Her infant son who was born in 07-05-1896 and died 08-29-1896 was buried in the Swan Lake Lutheran Cemetery.
I can't find a record of Adolph in this cemetery.
So interesting!

Bingo. Birgit is identified in the new Aal Bygdesoge Slektsoga Volume V page 97 as the daughter of Knut Oleivson Gurigard (1821-1896)and his 3rd wife Birgit Aslesdatter Arnegard.(1833-1922) Part of these books were online I'll check to see if this information might still be. A brother of Birgit named Asle Knutson also came to US and lived in California.

Yes there was a different, similar Berget. Minnesota Official Marriage System (MOMS) lists marriage of Berget O GJELDAKER to Rasmus Nygaard in Nicollet county, Minnesota, 29 April 1881.

Find-a-Grave memorial
lists this Berget as
born 14 March 1860 in Ål, Buskerud
died 01 December 1911 in Norman county, Minnesota.
Her birth day is inscribed on her tombstone.

A tree for Knut Oleivsen Gurigard: link

Birgit Lubeck is probably buried at the St Peter State Hospital cemetery. The Minnesota "Remembering with Dignity" project has for some years been working to identify and mark these graves with names rather than numbers. By writing to the hospital, you might be able to track down Birgit's specific gravesite.

The cemetery has two Find-a-Grave portals, for the cemetery's two sections. A contact phone number here:

Anders had a brother Johan born Jan 1 1846, see #10.

Hi eibache
Any idea what happened to the brother Johan?
Thank you.

We can only go by what is written in that record. The column for Reisemål in that database gives the answer. It says "Kvebek". A likely phonetic spelling variation meaning Quebec...
You can translate all the column headings to assist in understanding the database content - https://otjoerge.wordpress.com/norwegian-american-dictionary/ae-o-a-0-9/#0

The writer of that emigrant list in Oslo/Kristiania for that voyage was consistent in his/her spelling choices. Also interesting is the spelling of the ship name "New Brurssvig". I'm thinking the writer may have meant --

Be sure and also review the articles on this website about Canadian records for passenger arrivals, etc.

He is not with the family in 1865 census, but two brothers and three sisters of Anders is there.
He could have died or moved out of the parish. Searches in parish records will have to be extensive to find what is the case.
1865 census.
