Am looking for information about my paternal grandmother's family. My great grandfather, Emil August Halvorsen, who was born in 1870, and baptized in Garnison Menighet, Oslo, Akershus, Norway, emigrated to the US, arriving in Boston, MA, in Sept. 1890. My great grandmother, Helga Molteberg (1870-1964) also emigrated to the US, and she and Emil were married in Worcester, MA, in 1891.
I would like to know more about their antecedents, and perhaps learn whether there are any family members still living in the region of Oslo-Sarpsborg.
Thanks in advance for any help that might be offered.

I see there is a Family Tree on Ancestry.com that indicates that the parents of Helga are Johan Ludvig Larsen Molteberg and Karen Lisbeth Larsdatter

Here they are on the Molteberg farm in the 1865 Norwegian Census

1865

Helga Anette was born September 5, 1869

#85

The family on Molteberg Søndre in the 1875 Norwegian Census

1875

Helga was confirmed in 1884. Farm name then was Braaten

#5

Helga Anette Molteberg left Borge Parish in 1891.

#13

She left Oslo on May 28, 1891 under the name Helga Multeberg, destination was Worceter.

Link

A slight misspelling in the last name an H in place of an M and the destination name is mangled a bit, but this is Helga Mutleberg arrival in New York.

Thank you to all for the information about my great-great grandfather (and great-great grandmother)... I have added to my ancestry.com tree the details you've all provided.
I am traveling to Norway in October of this year, and will be staying in Oslo for 12 days. I plan to visit the chapel at the fortress where my great-grandfather was baptized, and hope to find additional info about the family as I continue to become better acquainted with this great Norway-Heritage website.
Again, thanks for your help!

There is an online tree for the family of Johan Larsen and Karen Elisabeth Larsdatter. It does not include all of the children, For example skips Helga Anette.but might give some information on existing family.

Talelberg Famly

The Tree belongs to Dag Thalberg who can be contacted through a link at the bottom of the his pages.
