Would anyone be able to help me concerning the family of Ole Larson. Hove (b.1784) and his wife Kari Andersdatter Ovri (b.1785). They lived on the Hove farm and I'm sure Ole would have been a husman on the farm. I have names of their first 3 children but they apparently all died. Would there be a record of their births in the church records? It is almost impossible for me to read the old records so I am asking for help. The 3 children I have listed are: John b. 1817; Dordej b. 1819 and Anders born 1819. Could Dordej and Anders have been twins? Thank you for any help you can give me...............

One advantage of using Ancestry is that they have transcribed many Norwegian records. For baptism records that means you can pinpoint where in the parish records to look for the baptism. Here is the record for Dordej.

Dordej Olsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Dordej Olsen
[Dordej Larsen]
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 1 jan 1819
Baptism Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Father: Ole Larsen
Mother: Kari Andersdr
FHL Film Number: 126585

The original record is still not easy to find in some of these old records. See the first record in the 1819 left page.

Now the transcribed record for Anders shows a mother with the same name.

Anders Olsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Anders Olsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 1 jan 1819
Baptism Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Father: Ole Larsen
Mother: Kari Andersdr
FHL Film Number: 126585

The original record is second one below the one for Dordej. Looks to me as if the list of witnesses are the same for the two baptism records.

When Ancestry lists a FHL Film number that indicates that they got the extracted data from the Family History Library system in Salt Lake City. The FREE familysearch.org website directly from Salt Lake City appears to list at least 7 children's names born to that couple in Vik, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway.

Thank you so much for this information! Now, do I dare ask if there is any record that these people died when young. Those of us doing family research do not have any other information on them other than that they were born in the above given years. I know you would have to check the death records. The last 4 children. Lars, John, Brita and Hermund all emigrated to the USA and for several years lived in the Illinois/Iowa area. Later Brita moved to North Dakota. Thanks again for your time and effort!!

You can narrow the search a little by looking for confirmation records. i did not find a confirmation record for either Dordej or Anders born in 1819. However I did find a confirmation record for Lars born in 1820. So it is possible that neither Anders or Dordej were alive in 1835.

#47

Lars was baptized Dec 22, 1820.

Working backwards from 1836 you come across a Anders Olsen Hove age 16, who died in 1834, no parents given so it is an open question if this is the same Anders.?

#63

And you also come across a John Olsen Hove 4 yrs, who died in 1821.

#34

That could be the death record for the first son named John. born in 1817

Name: John Olsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 11 feb 1817
Baptism Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Father: Ole Larsen
Mother: Kari Andersdr
FHL Film Number: 126585

Original record middle of left page

A second son also named John was born in 1823

Name: John Olsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 14 jul 1823
Baptism Place: Vik I Sogn,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway
Father: Ole Larsen
Mother: Kari Andersdr
FHL Film Number: 126586

Wow! Thank you all so much for this information! My thinking is that Anders and Dordej were probably twins with Dordej not surviving her birth. Thank you all again!

Another piece of information that I would like - From the same family, daughter Brita Olsdtr who was born July 21, 1826 married Guttorm Kjellson Lilleoren in Norway, I would think at Vik. Can you find their marriage date? Also the marriage date for the youngest son, Hermund, (would like his birthdate - I just have 1829) who married Oline Oyeksdotter Myrland. I would appreciate any info on Oline. Thank you again...... I am most grateful!
