Hi I am looking for any information on Gulbrand Gulbrandsen born march 18 1856 who lived on the Storlie or Storeli farm in Gransherad kongsberg parish. He is/Was my 2nd great grandfather who immigrated here in abt. 1883-84 with my 2nd great grandmother Maren Karine Mathiasdatter. I'm looking for information and /or pictures of the farm/s they lived on while in Norway and also photos of them or relatives of theirs that still live in Norway or maybe someone who knows information about the Storeli Farm. Thanks in advance.

Also if anyone has a family tree already made for the relatives who stayed in Norway that would be amazing too! Ty Michelle

Here is the 1865 census on the family:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01038141001928

Gransherad is a parish in Telemark fylke. Kongsberg is a parish in Buskerud fylke. So it's likely that there is an error designating those two places together.

Also confusing things a little is that there is this baptism record for Gulbrand Gulbrandsen that matches the birth data given by the OP and is from Kongsberg.

Gulbrand Gulbrandsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Gulbrand Gulbrandsen
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 18 mar 1856
Baptism Date: 20 mai 1856 (20 May 1856)
Baptism Place: , Kongsberg, Buskerud, Norway
Father: Gulbrand Gulbrandsen
Mother: Gunnild Olsdr
FHL Film Number: 123985

#73

So maybe he was born in Kongsberg and the family moved to Gransherrad. Farm looks like Kasa? in the baptism record. I see that Kasa, nordre is the adjacent farm to Storeli in the 1865 census.

1865

The municipalities Gransherad, Heddal and Notodden was in 1964 merged to the new municipality of Notodden, Telemark. Except for the region Gransherad-Jondalen, that was joined with Kongsberg, Buskerud.

Storli is in Gransherad-Jondalen, and today a part of Kongsberg, Buskerud.

The Storli farm farm (u. Rĝnningsdalen) and the family (parents and siblings) of Gulbrand Gulbrandsen are listed on page 661 of the book "Gransheradsoga." In the same book just a few pages earlier are at least two Kasa farms which probably give information about earlier generations of his father's family. There are no pictures of those farms or families in that book but a family history could probably be traced out of the ancestral line in Gransherad, Telemark.

I was able to borrow the book some years ago by Inter-Library Loan and I always keep a copy of the "Innhald" [Table of Contents] when I have to return one. I cannot say that the book is easy to follow but it may prove helpful to you if you spend the time.

I think, not sure, Gulbrand was born in Jondalen, Gransherad, which was an independant parish but is recorded in Kongsberg. His father was "lĝsarbeider" Day laborer.
The second godparent was Ole Olsen Narverud from Gransherad

So if it's an independent parish there isn't access to records? Is that what that means?

A link to the birth/baptismal record for Gulbrand was provided above.

The church records for Jondalen are listed with Kongsberg, Buskerud.
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Kongsberg_Parish,_Buskerud,_Norway_Genealogy

For Gulbrand's earlier ancestors in Gransherad you'd be using the parish records for that district.
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Gransherad_Parish,_Telemark,_Norway_Genealogy

The free WIKI at FamilySearch.org is a good resource to check for information about availability of many records.

This looks like the famous needle in the hay stack.

The 1865 cenus showed above tells ;
County: Telemark, Municipality (1947) Gransherad, Hovin (a sub parish) Geographic area; Gransherad parish, Gransherad local parish, Hovin local parish.

Remarks; Gransheard-Jondalen school-district includes this source. It belongs to Gransherad local parish and bailiff area, but Kongsberg parish (Buskerud county).

The Bygdebook tells Gulbrand Gulbrandsen Kċsa was born on Kċsa 1824 and died on Storelien /Storeli/Storli 1896.
The farm do not exist today.

The location of the farm:

The land is today used for a winter-camp:

It's possible the farm was located at the red ring below, just south of the campground.
