Hello I am looking for info on the immediate family of Maren Karine Matthiasdatter born 28 Jan 1857 in Våle/Vaale parish, Vestfold county, Norway. Parents are Mathias Pedersen of Teigen of Ramnes, lives Kjølsrud; Maid KAREN SOFIE JØRGENSDATTER, Veierud. I need information on who the rest of their children were and who their grandchildren and great grandchildren where/are. I understand that Karen Sofie had a daughter named Hanna with a different father. I specifically need info on who Hannas father was and who her children and grandchildren are. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Takk! |

This is likely the baptism record for the Hanna you are seeking. Father is listed as Hans Jorgen Bugge
Hanna Hansen in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927 Name: Hanna Hansen Gender: Female Birth Date: 22 jan 1866 Baptism Date: 21 feb 1866 Baptism Place: Vaale,Vestfold,Norway Father: Hans Jorgen Bugge Mother: Karen Sofie Jorgensdr
The baptism record above does not match the original record. The original record shows her baptism date as April 8, 1866. She is listed as being born out of wedlock.

Maren was born out of wedlock in 1857 and by the 1865 census as shown just above - her mother is not married to Mathias. Any other children appears to be quite unlikely for that couple.

Ok so I have the correct father down for Hanna so that's good. Can you find out who Hannas children are? |

Michelle -- Try checking the records indexed in FamilySearch.org for marriages and children of these persons. It is free.

Hopkins I'm not sure what this says? Could you do a translation for me? The child was born to Karen Sofie and a man married to someone else? |

It does sort of match. The home baptism occurred on 21 Feb 1866, the church baptism occurred on 8 April 1866. Yes, she is uægte, illegitimate, which appears in the column to the right, after her name. Her parents are identified as a "gift mand" married man and "pige" girl or unmarried female. It appears to say that this is the mother's 3rd leiermal, indiscretion, and with two other dates, probably of births 29 Dec 1863 and 9 April 1857. |

A good thing to do would be to check the actual records for a confirmation for her. Most are confirmed at about 15 years of age. Then if you don't find her, search the actual records for a death or a move to another place. There are very few confirmation records transcribed at familysearch, so the original records would be more valuable for this research. Otherwise what records for her have you searched? |
