I would like to obtain a copy of my great grandfather's (Albert Eastmon) birth certificate. The main reason is so that I can find out who his birth parents were. Albert migrated from Norway (Tolga) at a young age to New York and arrived a few years later on the "Turon" in Melbourne in1858, via New York and Liverpool. He died in a mining accident at Mount Malcolm, Western Australia 1897. His wife was Isabella Crozier (m. 12Dec1867, Clunes, Victoria).

I believe Albert was born in Tolgen (Tolga). Unfortunately I have not been able to find out details of his birth.

Who should I contact?

Kimberly Smith, Mont Albert, Victoria, AU 3127

His baptism record will be on line at Digitalarkivet. But first we have to find him.

This is likely his death record which also gives an approximate birth year and a name for his father and his birth mother. His fathers name is likely Esten.

Albert Eastmon
in the Australia, Death Index, 1787-1985
Name: Albert Eastmon
Birth Year: abt 1838
Age: 59
Father's name: Estine
Mother's name: Mary Olsen
Registration Year: 1897
Registration Place: Western Australia
Registration Number: 1445

Why do you think he is from the parish of Tolga, Hedmark.

Maybe he was from a mining area in Norway, too?

A strong candidate:
#54 Embret Estensen
Born: 11 Jul 1839, chr: 11 Aug 1839, Vingelen, Tolga, Hedmark
Parents: Esten Embretsen & Marit Olsdr
Transcribed record

Father is Esten
Mother is "Mary Olsen"
Born in Tolga
Emigrated to America
Given name can be anglicised to Albert
Last name can be anglicised to Eastmon

The family emigrated to America (signed out of Parish) on 18 Jun 1851. (Right page #36 - #41)
#36 Bondemand (Farmer) Esten Ingebretsen Aastrøen b. 10 Apr 1804
#37 Wife Marit Olsdr Aastrøen b. 23 Sep 1798
Children:
#38 Ingeborg Estensdr Aastrøen b. 13 Jun 1832
#39 Marit Estensdr Aastrøen b. 26 Jul 1834
#40 Peternille Estensdr Aastrøen b. 19 Oct 1836
#41 Ingebret Estensen Aastrøen b. 11 Jul 1839

Your man "Albert Eastmon" is likely #41, Embret/Ingebret Estensen, born 11 Jul 1839.
The farm they originate from is Aastrøen (also called Trøen Aasen) in Tolga, Hedmark.

Yes, it looks like them in Census-1860 for Amherst Township, Fillmore, Minnesota, United States

A bit puzzled about two of the children though.
There shouldn't be any Ole born 1837 or Betsey born 1842.
Occupation reads farmhand for Ole, so not neccessary a child...? Betsy could be Ingeborg or (more likely) Peternille, but age is a bit off..

Probably the baptism of the bride above, and her family in the 1801 census.. The residence for the bride above is given as Nordre Tolgensbakke, while the family stayed at Tolgensbakken søndre at the 1801 census. The parents' residence at the baptism is given as Røseplads, which is only two domicles past Tolgensbakken søndre at the census.

Interesting that Peternilla was listed by lastname of Johnsen. Is her husband listed? Is this myheritage site owned by a US citizen?

Peternilla Estensdatter Johnsen in Familysearch family tree. The tree has been edited twice this month by two different persons. Several descendants were living in Alberta, Canada after 2000.
