My grandmother was Margith Andersen born in Stokke Norway approximately 1889. She was the daughter of Anders Johannson ( Not sure of the spelling of Storevar also Stokke, Norway. Apparently there were 12 children in the family. Does anyone know of this family? |

It is possible that the father Edvard Magnusson travelled back and forth from Norway to Canada several times. Here are some of the records for Edvard Magnusson born about 1850 traveling to Canada.
With a Jenny Magnusson in 1905, could be his daughter born about 1888.
Emigration 1905
Emigration 1906
Travelling alone, note the address is Sandergard and sligtyoly different than the Sannergard for the family in the 1900 Norwegian Census.
And here he is 1911 going to his son. The birth date given for him matches that for the Edvard born 6-13-1850 in Sweden so very likely the same man.

In fact the more I look at the emigration records, it looks to me like several of the children travelled to Canada. If they stayed there and settled or returned to either Norway or Sweden is really not yet clear.
We think the father travelled back and forth several times. No sign that the mother Alette travelled to Canada.
Here is a list of the children from 1900 Census and the likely year for their travel to Canada
Gottfrid Magnussen 1879 Kristiania 1907 Augusta Magnussen 1881 Kristiania 1905 Anna Magnussen 1887 Kristiania Hulda Magnussen 1891 Kristiania Einar Magnussen 1893 Kristiania 1908 Helga Magnussen 1894 Kristiania 1908 Jenny Magnussen 1888 Kristiania 1905 Emil Magnussen 1884 Kristiania 1906 |

I would think that this is likely Einar Magnusson born about 1893 and who emigrated in 1908 in the 1911 Canadian Census
Name: Emas Magunssen Gender: Male Marital status: Single Race or Tribe: Swedish Age: 18 Birth Date: Dec 1892 Birth Place: Norway Census Year: 1911 Relation to Head of House: Lodger Immigration Year: 1908 Province: British Columbia District: Yale and Cariboo District Number: 14 Sub-District: 60 - Yale Sub-District Number: 60 Place of Habitation: Hope Tp |

Also in all this digging I came across a son of Edvard Magnusson and Alette Elise Olsdatter that I had missed.
Olaf Martin Magnussen in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927 Name: Olaf Martin Magnussen Gender: Male Birth Date: 20 mar 1877 Baptism Date: 29 jul 1877 Baptism Place: Oslo, Oslo, Norway Father: Edvard Magnussen Mother: Anette Elise Olsen FHL Film Number: 1259718
So by the time of the 1900 Norwegian Census he was already married and out on his own.
1900
He and his family left for Minnesota in 1902
Emigration 1902
But he also ended up in Canada for the 1911 Census
Olef Magrnussan in the 1911 Census of Canada Name: Olef Magrnussan Gender: Male Marital status: Married Race or Tribe: Norwegian Age: 34 Birth Date: Mar 1877 Birth Place: Norway Census Year: 1911 Relation to Head of House: Head Immigration Year: 1902 Province: Manitoba District: Selkirk District Number: 22 Sub-District: 15 Sub-District Number: 15 Place of Habitation: 87 Prchn Ave Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Olef Magrnussan 34 Halda Magrnussan 35 Erling Magrnussan 15 Barger Magrnussan 8 Annie Magrnussan 12 Petter Gulbrandson 32 |
