Using the information that when young son Oluf Habgart died in 1875 their residence was Thorshoug, Aker we can find Edward Magnusson in the 1875 Census at Nedre Thorshaoug

1875

Next to Edvard on the 1875 Census is a Anna Olsdatter. However the Census shows her as being born in 1838 not 1843 and in Sweden not Norway.

1875

Margith Andersdatter b 1879 Storvahr

Swedish side

Eric Olsson Roos b 1767 married Nelia Öjarsdotter

Magnus Ericsson Roos b 1811 married Inga Olsdatter

Dear Lyndal 40, Thank you so much for the simplification. It doe get confusing for the novice. I will do a family tree when I get back from Norway. I am going the 278th May for 3 weeks with my sister. We will go to Stokke and Storvahr and look around, perhaps go to the church with the recorsds.
You don't have any info on currently living people in my family, do you.? I gather a lot are in North America but if there is a chance to meet someone in Oslo or Stokke or Bergen , that would be really fun.
Many thanks, Skol Joan

No I do not have any information on your living relatives in Norway. My skill is mostly in gong in the other direction. Speaking of which, using the basic family tree sometimes helps me see where it is useful to put my effort. So here is another generation back for the Stokke family. You are far enough back so that the information is getting a little sparse.

This is likely the baptism of Johannes Friedrichsen Heiss b 1751

Johannes Heiss
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Johannes Heiss
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 14 des 1751 (14 Dec 1751)
Baptism Place: , , Vestfold, NorwayStokke
Father: Heiss
Mother: Anne Amunsdr
FHL Film Number: 127651

So looking at the original record, it shows that Johannes was baptized Dec 14, 1751. He was born out of wedlock and his parents are Annne Amundsdatter and a Lieutenant Heiss.

See the right hand page third record from the bottom.

Link

The Norwegian transcribed record, note her farm is N Qverne or probably Nordre Kverne in the Bygdebok

Link

I suspect i will not get much further back then this one.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Norway.

Well maybe a little further back. Based on the Norwegian transcription of the baptism of Johannes in 1751 I would venture to guess that the father of Anne Amundsdatter is Amund Ditmanssen of Nordre Qverne.and her mother is Berthe Jacobsdatter.

This from the Stokke bygdebok, the farm is Nordre Kverne

Fem barn: 1. Ditman, se nedenfor. 2. Johanne, død før faren. Gift med Amund Torssøn Solberg i Ramnes. 3. Berte, gift med sersjant Kristoffer Anderssøn Borgen, bor Fuske. 4. Anna, gift med bergmand Anders Andreassen paa Kongsberg. 5. Helvig, f. 1736, ugift og bor paa Kongsberg.

This tree and the above both list a daughter Anna. She married a Anders Andreassen. Still possible as she was not married to Lieutenant Heiss and could have married Anders Andreassen at some time after the birth of Johannes.

Here is the record for the confirmation of Johannes Fridrichsen Nordre Qverne (also spelled Kverne) in 1767. While no parents are listed the fact that he is given the farm name of Nordre Qverne in his confirmation, and that his mothers name in his baptism record is Anne Amundsdatter ties him quite directly to Amund Dittmanssøn an owner of Qverne in the 1700's as his grandfather. And of course the Lieutenant Fridrichsen Heiss as his father

Seventh boy on the left hand page under 1767

I think you can feel fairly comfortable in assuming that your family line extends back as far as the first owner of Kverne who was born around 1600 and named Ditman.

You can follow the family back on the Geni.com link above and in the Kverne section of the Stokke Bygedbok. See the section under Brukere under Kverne, Nordre.

Dear Lyndal 40.
I want to thank you very much for all the information that you have found on the two branches of my Norwegian/Swedish roots.
If you were into Irish, Scottish and Welsh I would be all set !!
Many thanks again. Sincerely, Joan Patton Forsythe
