Back again, this time digging into the immigration of my 5x great-grandparents, Bottolf Sjursen & Kari Eriksdatter Brekke, and their family. The emigration record of them leaving Norway includes their family, and farther up on the page, Lars & Sigrid and their family. The immigration record of them arriving in Quebec (Monsoon, 1866) has Kari and her family on one page, and Bottolf on the very next page, listed as the father of Sigrid’s family. Lars Hansen is nowhere to be found upon arrival. After doing some digging, I discovered that there was one death on the voyage and I am pretty sure it must’ve been Lars. And yes, Bottolf was married to Kari, and Lars to Sigrid. Nothing out of wedlock or an affair to my knowledge. Bottolf and Kari were in their 60’s at this time, while Sigrid and Lars were in their 40’s. Just looking for some context as to what may have happened, or does my story add up? Thanks for anything! |

It is a rather messy set of records for both emigration and arrival. This is what I get from the Arikivet Emigration record.
Bottolf Sjursen Brække Sigrid Brække Johanne Brække Hans Brække
Elling Bottolfsen Brække Kari Eriksdtr Brække
I do not find a Lars Hansen leaving Bergen in the Arkivet records or arriving on the Canadian records.
Also there is a Johanne at about the same age as Nils and no Nils?

The records leaving Bergen seem to be in error and I do not think that you can trust them. The records for arrival in Canada follow the Bergen records. and for the same reason are suspect. The only records that fit the families you are asking about are the original records leaving the parish of Aurland. |

Why do you think that Lars Hansen Loven did not arrive. Here is a record for a Lars Hansen Loven born about 1822 died in 1900.
Lars Hansen Loven in the U.S., Find A Grave Index, 1600s-Current Name: Lars Hansen Loven Birth Date: 1822 Death Date: 1900 Cemetery: Urland Cemetery Burial or Cremation Place: Sogn, Goodhue County, Minnesota, United States of America Has Bio?: N |

Looks like Lars Hansen Loven and wife Sigri Knutsdatter married their son in Minnesota. I think the note that Goodhue is in Wisconsin is an error.
Hans Larsen Loven in the U.S., Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Church Records, 1781-1969 Name: Hans Larsen Loven Gender: Male Record Type: Marriage Marriage Date: 16 Jun 1887 Marriage Place: Goodhue, Wisconsin, USA Father: Lars Hansen Loven Mother: Sigri Knutsdtr Spouse: Mette Christine Monsdtr Stondal Church Name: Urland Lutheran Church Church Location: Dennison, Minnesota
There is some evidence that Sigri died in 1873 and Lars remarried to a Johanna. |

That’s a lot of compelling research. The reason why I suspected something must’ve happened to Lars Hansen on the voyage was because he was present on the emigration record but not on the immigration record. It suspected that he must’ve died on the voyage and that Bottolf was, for some reason, listed as Sigrid’s husband (which is incorrect). I’m not trying to necessarily trace down the Loven family. I was investigating the Brekke Family immigration and stumbled upon this by accident. But after seeing Lars Hansen still living in the US after 1866 is quite confusing. |

My guess would be that the two families are separate and only got mixed up in the voyage records. When they arrived again they went their separate ways. The Lars Hansen Loven family to Goodhue County, Minnesota and your ancestors the Bottold Sjursen Brekke family Otter Tail County, Minnesota. |
