This is likely the baptism of Joen Andreas in 1817. Father is Ola Peersen Røshagen.

Considering the usual spelling variations in older Norwegian records, this could be the family of Aasel Joensdatter Messøen in the 1801 Census.
The farm is spelled Mezøen and the daughter is Aazilla Joensdatter. Not Aasel. Parents are Joen Andersen and Anna Pedersdatter.

Back this far in time, you can sometimes find a Family Tree that can be useful. Here is one from Geni.com that has some good sources Including the marriage I posted above.
https://www.geni.com/people/Aselle-Aasel-Joensdatter/6000000006823800001
Aselle (Aasel) Joensdatter Gender: Female Birth: 1784 Hestøya, Rødøy, Nordland, Norway Death: April 08, 1871 (86-87) Oldra, Meløy, Nordland, Norway Place of Burial: Meløy, Nordland, Norway Immediate Family: Daughter of Jon Andersen and Anna Petersdatter Wife of Ole Pedersen
You can use Geni.com to trace ancestors back in time. I would be a little careful when you get back into the 1500's. I see some names that always pop up such as Benkestock that can indicate wishful thinking on the part of the author. |

I was a little confused by your e-mail as to the name of your ancestor. Are you thinking that John Andreas Olsen is the same person as your great-great grandfather John Peterson.
I see by the Geni.com Family Tree I posted that they have John Andreas Olsen as having died in Norway in 1903.
Nr. 5

Maybe if you tell us a little more about your ancestor we can find out a little more about him.

I am not sure Joen/John is the same person. I first started searching after I got some hints from My Heritage. John definitely died in Nova Scotia August 19 1903. He is listed as John Peterson on my great grandfathers birth certificate and his nationality is listed as Norwegian. From this end - Canada - I have been searching all our records and can find nothing previous to 1853 for John. I thought maybe he came from Norway and changed his name. I’m reaching out to researches here as well to see if they can come up with anything. Thank-you for your interest. |

Ancestry.com links to this record from the 1881 Census of Canada. It shows that he was born in Canada, although the original document is so hard to read that I am not sure I trust that. It lists his Nationality as Norwegian. . Do you think this is the same man as your John Peterson?
John Peterson in the 1881 Census of Canada Name: John Peterson Gender: Male Marital status: Married Age: 61 Birth Year: 1820 Birthplace: Nova Scotia Religion: Canada Presbyterian Church Nationality: Norwegian Occupation: Ship Carpto. Province: Nova Scotia District Number: 19 District: Colchester Sub-District Number: N Subdistrict: Truro Household Members: Name Age John Peterson 61 Abbie Peterson 48 Mary Peterson 23 Benjamin Peterson 20 Barbara Peterson 18
