I know Østli is a farm name in Norway. My ancestors (Hans and Halvor Thoresen) apparently operated a farm by that name in the 1860s. A sub farm of Kopperrud in Ullensaker.

What does Østli mean? Where does it derive from? Why might they choose this name?

Øst = East
Li = Hillside, slope

Østli.... the farm is located on an east-facing hillside
