Looking for information on my great grandfather Knute Thompson born in (could be Valdres, or Oppiand) Norway on February 1846, Came to the United States in 1877. According to the 1900 census he Resided in Dover Town, Buffalo County Wisconsin. Married to Julia Burns in 1867 in Norway. Two children came with them Julia and Thom K. I have not been able to find any information on my great grandfather once he came to America. Could the Thompson name have a different spelling in Norway? Knute died in 1924 in Wisconsin.
Thank you for any help.

Shari Thompson

A possibility for the children?

Barbro
Born 6 Jun 1868, Bruflat, Oppland, Norway
Parents: Knud Thomassen & Kari Arnesdr

Thomas
Born 6 Dec 1869, Bruflat, Oppland, Norway
Parents: Knud Thomassen & Kari Arnesdr

Likely not them since age doesn't fit with the 1900-census.
What was the name of the daughter emigrating with them?
Knut Thompson 54
Julia Thompson 57
Tom Thompson 23

. Julia was the daughter. Thom was my grandfather who was 8 months old when they came to America. Matilda was the last child born . She was born in the United states.

What are your sources/references to Valdres, Oppland and Burns?

Edit: I see the Burns reference from census-1910, but she is not your Julia. This Julia Burns is born 1828. Your Julia is listed below Tom, as a widow.

Is this the marriage of daughter Julia?
Her mother is listed as "Julia Oalson"... likely misspelling for Julia Olson

Julia Burns in census-1910 is born 1828... could she be the mother to Gro Olsen?
But I doubt it. It says she immigrated 1852. But possibly an aunt?

Julia Ericson is born february 1868, so her name in Norway was likely Gulbjørg Knudsdatter.

Looks like the last name for Julia may come from the farm. In the wedding record the farm name attached to her looks to be Bøen?

Also I wonder why he is given the name Tostensen, his father is listed as Knut Olsen?
