Hello,

I’ve had many unresolved mysteries and brick walls in certain people that form part of my Norwegian ancestry. I need help finding more information about people in my tree.

MYSTERIES:

• Ole Nielsen Øhrn was born in Kongsberg on January 7th, 1820. I know that his family was from Kongsberg but I’d like to know more about his family, in terms of their story, and delve deeper into their professions (probably working on farms, I suppose).

• I know that the name Øhrn originated from a farm but where exactly is it located? Are there some pictures of it that I could find online (google maps, for example)?

• I heard of a supposed German ancestry in Kongsberg because of the miners that were brought into the silver mines in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Thank you to anyone who at least stops by for some advice or some well-needed help.

I think it says his father was a sailor (Måtr.). But I see the transcription says maler (painter) and the word is more likely maler since the marriage also has that.

Note in particular that the original 1801 census record states that Maren Knudsdatter was the husband's mother.

Yes, I believe that she died in approximately 1801, the same year of the census. She was born in 1728 and got married in 1756, I think.

There are several family trees on Ancestry.com for this family. Not a lot of original sources listed so the use of a Bygdebok might be needed to confirm this data.

Most of the trees are focused on this descendant of Ole

Here is a record for the death of Maren Knusdatter . She was 83 years old.

She died around the 10th of August 1805. But she is listed as the widow of Nils Ørn? So the must be Nils Hansen Ørn.

There is a family tree on Geni.com for

Ole Nielsen Øhrn
Gender: Male
Birth: December 01, 1798
Modum, Buskerud
Death: September 13, 1833 (34)
Kongeberg, Buskerud
Immediate Family:
Son of Niels Hansen Øhrn and Maren Knudsdatter Enger
Husband of Elsebet Larsdatter Myhra
Father of Knut Olsen Øhrn

Added by: Ole Petter Weflaat on April 28, 2022
Managed by: Ole Petter Weflaat

Does not seem to work to try and post a full link to the Geni.com tree?

Another thing is that the birth year for Ole Nielsen is wrong. It should be 1758 NOT 1798.

The tree shows the son of Ole Nielsen as Knud Olsen born about 1791. That seems to be correct and Knud shows up with the family in the 1801 Census that was posted above. And here again

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058268006101

But the tree has this person as the father of Ole Nielsen.

Niels Hansen Øhrn (Øren)
Norwegian: Nils Hansen Øren
Gender: Male
Birth: 1735
Øren, Årdal, Sogn og Fjordane
Death: September 06, 1788 (52-53)
Kongsberg, Buskerud
Immediate Family:
Husband of Maren Knudsdatter Enger
Father of Ole Nielsen Øhrn

Now I believe that there is a Øren. farm in Årdal Parish, Sogn og Fjordane. But it seems a long ways from there to Buskerud parish?

Well in this discussion of the family in Slekt og Data it does appear that Niels Hansen Øhrn (Øren) was born about 1735 in Årdal (Lærdal), Sogn og Fjordane. Father appears to be a Hans Henrichsen Øren of Sogn og Fjordane.
