John or Johannes Mathison is single in 1910 and single in 1930 as opposed to divorced, or married or separated, so while marriage appears to be out, who knows about any stray DNA.

I do not see a Military record for Johannes. I do see this one for Christian.

Christian Mathisen
in the U.S., World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
Name: Christian Mathisen
Race: White
Birth Date: 24 Oct 1875
Residence Date: 1917-1918
Street Address: 1610 Meadow Ave
Residence Place: Los Angeles County, California, USA
Draft Board: 5
Physical Build: Medium
Height: Tall
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Spouse:
Lidia Mattisen

This document shows that he registered for the WWI draft. That does not mean that he was ever drafted into the Military. He was married and had seven children in the 1920 Census. That would likely mean he would be deferred from active military service.

You may be interested in another member of the family who also came to America. In the Probate Document for Peder, the document is signed by Andrew Mathison of Evensong Illinois

I see the there is a Andres Mahiassen in the same family in the 1891 Census. He was born in 1878.
