I am beginning to search my Norwegian ancestry. My great great-grandmother's name was Eli Evensdtr Sneen (born 10/21/1854 in Storen), and I've found a few records which I believe are hers, but I am stumped on how to find her father. She is named "Evensdatter" but one census has her father's name as Anders Jensen, so I'm thinking that was her stepfather? I'm trying to find Even and Siri (Sigrid's) parents too. Any help/advice would be so appreciated!!! Thank you!

The first link to the census calls her "hendes" rather than "deres" meaning that Eli is her mother's daughter but not her mother and Anders' daughter.

Thank you! I spent hours trying to figure out how to find the right Even from all the others. I'm thinking that Horg parish is the way to narrow it down? This is great! Thanks again.

Here is a marriage from 1847 that could be for your ancestors.

Sigrid Sivertsdatter
in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926
Name Sigrid Sivertsdatter
Gender Female
Age 19
Birth Date 1827
Marriage Date 6. jul 1846 (6 Jul 1846)
Marriage Place Sør-Trøndelag, Norway
Bride Previous Husband's Name Sivert Sivertsen
Spouse
Even Jensen
FHL Film Number 307001

I wonder if the transcription is incorrect and that it is the father of the bride not the previous husband.

I am so delighted! Thank you both. On Even's marriage, it says he is from "Kaastad" but I cannot find this city/location on a map. When reading these records how do you decipher the actual location from what is written? I'm thinking it must be some variation of Kaastad, but I don't know where to start looking!

That would be a farm name and could be spelled Konstad as well.

Wow, so now I have a great lead for Even's father and mother, and Seri's father, as well as info on her 2nd marriage, and Even's role as a cottager and his death date (Feb 23rd, like his birthdate). This is way above and beyond what I'd hoped to find on this post--thank you so much for taking the time to look!!

Eli also has a brother named Erik # 3 also in Horg:
Ministerialprotokoller, klokkerbøker og fødselsregistre - Sør-Trøndelag, AV/SAT-A-1456/692/L1103: Ministerialbok nr. 692A03, 1849-1870, s. 24

Even and Siri are characterized as huusmanfolk on Grinde. Faddere for Erik include:
Ingri Jensdtr Kolbrandstad (?) in Hoiland; Marita Evensdtr same farm; Kari Sivertsdtr Gaasland; Nils Sivertsen Kolbrandstad (?); Even Evensen Konstad.

Thank you for clarifying that the birth place could be a farm name, not a city.

Amund (Eli's husband) was from the Gudbrandsdal area and his whole family tree was already inputted on their lag site so I am way farther along on his side of the family! But now I'm very inspired to keep looking on Eli's side. This has been fantastic.
