Looking for information on Johannes Dahl born 1836 in Bergen. Immigrated to America in 1861 coming into Chicago with wife Petrine Pedersburg born 14 Nov Norway. He died of typhoid fever in Chicago, Petrine went on to Westby, Wisconsin.
Also, Hogan H. Viken/Kolbo born 1 Feb 1822 Oppland County Gudbrandsdalen married 1848 in Nannestad to Karen Olsdotter from Norgard Slattum farm near Nannestad.
No passenger lists records before 1861. Both families coming together.

Thanks.

Hi Connie, Are you sure Johannes was born in Bergen? I found the family record on the LDS for Johannes and Petrine with a son Peter born , Bergen, Sondriland, Norway, There isn't a Sondriland near Bergen (that I'm aware of) so I checked Sondre Land in Oppland and there is a Peter born to Johannes Johnson and Petrine Pedersdatter matching the birthdate in the vital records index for Norway.
Also the IG has a marriage record for a Johannes and Petrine but I am not sure that they are "yours".
You may want to look at the microfilm church records at the LDS for Sondre Land to see if you can find more info on Johannes

Thank you Carla, The Bergen was told to my mother, but obviously wrong. The two families must have lived in the same area and decided to immigrate together. They came to this country when Peter was 3 years old in 1861.

Next time I get to the LDS library I will do more research in Sondre Land. Connie

Hello.
I am new to the Norway Heritage site. My Great-Great-Great Grandparents were Johannes and Karen (Olsdatter) Kolbo from Norway. Some of this information matches my records. I show Johannes Kolbo, born Feb. 1, 1822 at 'Kolbo' farm Oyer, Gudbrandsdaien, Oppland County Shire, Norway. Married in 1848 to Karen Olsdatter of a farm named Nordgrad Slattum in Nannestad, Norway. Came to America from Norway in 1861 and settled in Westby Wisconson.
Does anyone have information on either Johnannes or Karens parents?
You may e-mail me at Karen_a_jeffers@yahoo.com
Thank you,
Karen

There are a large number of Family Trees on Ancestry.com with this family. Would this be the family that you are interested in. Looks like the man was married a second time to a Marit Thoresen? Also some of the information in these sites may not be totally accurate. As shown in other posts here by Einar Nannestad is in Akershus not Oppland fylke and the birth year for Johannes may be wrong.

Johannes Haakonsen Kolbo
Birth 5 Feb 1822 in Nannestad, Oppland, Norway
Death 27 Oct 1907 in Lodi, Custer, Nebraska, United States

wife

Karen Slattum Larsen Olsdotter
Birth Aug 1828 in Slattum Farm, Nannestad, Oppland, Norway
Death 1866 in Westby, Vernon, Wisconsin, United States

Parents of both are listed in some of the trees.

The baptismal record for Karen Olsdatter is #747 - she was born Oct 30 1829, her parents were Ole Larsen, Slattum and Dorthe Hansdatter.

Follow the siblings of this Johannes Haagensen (parents Haagen Wiigen, no patronymic name given, and Berit) to find them in Westby, Vernon, Wisconsin.
Seems to be same family as Karen's and same as family lyndal40 posted:

I believe Johannes Haagensen was born Febr 5 1821 (not 1822). He was baptized Febr 11, his parents named Haagen and Berit Wiigen, see 4th record in 5th column.

Information according to Find--a-Grave memorial:
John H Kolbo
Birth: Feb. 5, 1821
Death: Oct. 27, 1907
Burial at Lodi Cemetery, Custer, Nebraska
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Kolbo&GSfn=John&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSob=n&GRid=63778641&df=all&

According to the family tree the brother Amund died in Shelby, Minnesota, so if that's correct, then this is the brother:

1880
Shely, Polk, Minnesota
Amund H. Kolbo 62 b Norway, blacksmith
Neliken Kolbo 38 b Norway
Johan Kolbo 13 b Wisconsin
Josephine Kolbo 9 b Minnesota
Olene C. Kolbo 6 b Wisconsin
Adolph Kolbo 1 month b Minnesota

Living next door is this Hans, but I don't think it's the brother Hans:

1880
Shely, Polk, Minnesota
Hans A. Kolbo 39 b Norway
Ingeborg Kolbo 37 b Norway
Malla L. Kolbo 12 b Wisconsin
Augusta T. Kolbo 11 b Wisconsin
Thedore Kolbo 8 b Wisconsin
Adolf Kolbo 4 b Wisconsin
Robert Kolbo 3 b Wisconsin

So, the names appear to change with each generation. I see where it appears that Johannes was actually Johannes Haagensen, son of Haagen Wiigen and Berit. When I search the ships manifests should I be looking for Johannes Haagensen?

Johannes Haagensen married Karen Olsdater Slattum. Her father was Ole Larsen born about 1789. His father was Lars Olsen and mother was Anne Jacobsdatter. This is likely he and his family in the 1801 Norwegian Census. He was 13 at that time.
