I am researching my Great Grandparents, Oscar Thoresen (dob 1897 in Skoger) married to Laura Hansen. Their children are Doris Amalie Thoresen (dob April 15, 1997 or 1898) and Hans Andreas Thoresen (dob Sept 4, 1899) both born in Drammen, Norway. Laura died after Han's birth since she is not listed in the 1900 Census for Drammen.

Oscar's mother might have been Andrine Thoresen (dob 1844 in Lier) and he may have had a sister, Inger Oline Thoresen (dob 1881) and a brother, Thorvald Thoresen (dob 1888).

Doris Amalie Thoresen married Nils Harry Grahn and came to the USA in 1926.

I would be interested in hearing from you if you are familar with this family. Happy Tree Climbing.

I think your Oscar Thoresen was born in 1876 per Digitalrkivet.

And I think Nils Harry Grahn was a Swede, born about 1896, who immigrated from Gothenburg, Sweden, on the SS Drottningholm, sailing from Gothenburg, Sweden May 23rd, 1925 to New York.

I can not find them in the 1930 census, with the information you have given.

Nils Harry Grahn was suppose to be paying child support to a son from his first marriage. Because of this, when the census takers came for information, they would not open the door. They are not listed in any of the census records in the USA.

Thank you both for the infomation.

In Digitalarkivet, Digitised records for: Buskerud, Lier, birth records, Image 10,there is an Andrine born 16 Feb. 1843, uækte, to Anne Dorthea Larsdtr. Cannot find any more information to make sure she is the right one. On the same page there are godparents with the name Thorstad. Are you sure your ggranparents are a Thoresen?

Thorvald Thoresen, born 1888 is probably not the son of Oscar Thoresen, if he was born in 1876.

Les

Sorry, I indicated the Skoger parish, instead of Lier.

Oh yea, must have been a late night at the computer when I wrote the first message. Info from 1900 census.

Oscar Thoresen(1876) and Laura Hansen had children:
Doris Amalie 1897
Hans Andreas 1899

Andrine Thoresen 1844--mother with siblings
Inger Oline 1881
Thorvald 1888

I wish I knew more about this family. When Doris Amalie died here husband, Nils Harry burnt most of the old documents and photos.

If you know what state they lived in, that would help.
If you know when and where they died, that would help.

In the 1865 census, I found an interesting Andrine Olsdatter age 20, who married Thore C. Eriksen age 46, and they had six sons and 1 daughter. Still too many blank spots to make a good connection.

I have Doris's Krumkake Iron! How nice to know Nils worked in the factor. I am very excited about this news.

The Krumkake Iron has written on it: Drammens Jernstøberi Nr11

I've made Krumkake several years ago. I will have to try it again.

I am so excited to find out all this information about my Grandmother and her family.

I have been emailing KAannero since we found out we are cousins! I want to Thank everyone on this board for their help. Without the internet I would never have known there was family in Norway that was looking for their lost family in the USA. This is so exiting to make the connection.

I find out that Laura Hansen died aug.4 1900 . At that time the family was living in a place called Smedberget. That's close to Drammen Jernstøperi.
She died of a pneumonia.

Lester, Thank your for the information too. Your information is a good clue since I know nothing about the generations before my grandmother. I have learned more from this post than I knew in my life! It is so exciting.

I did some more searches on Ancestry.com using a feature in my Family Tree Maker. I did find Nils Harry Grahn in the 1930 census by searching on my aunt's name, Ruth Stella Grahn. Of course it was misspelled in the census under something I had not tried. I am surprised because I have looked for years and a friend went to Salt Lake City to comb the census there too. We knew they lived in Rockford, Illinois.

Nils Harry Grahn's passenger list has a second page, which indicates he was going to an uncle Svan Grahn, in Phillips, Wis. A mystery occurs on the first page where it is written his father is Carl Larsson, of Tángsäter, Asker.

Svan Grahn can be found in the 1900 to 1930 US census for Wisconsin, Price County, Phillips. Search ancestry.com using Gran, Swan for 1900, 1910 and 1930.

He is Grace, Swan for the 1920 census. His wife is Augusta, and they have many children.

Swan and Augusta immigrated in 1899, but I have not been able to locate the ship.

I cannot verify for sure these are your relatives, but they sure are close.

Les

Since you are a member of Ancestry.com, I recommend you edit your ancestors misspelled names to the preferred spellings.
