I have looked up on Ancestry Stuland/Malmanger family trees and there are many genealogists who have researched this family. He is the son of Thore Samsonson Stuland, (1771-Oct. 25, 1837) and Anna Larsdtr Landa (1769-June 16, 1864) who died at Stuland, Kvinnherad, Hordaland, Norway. The only comment in every tree is that Lars died after 1871 and the list his residence as Eio austre, Hordaland, Norway. My family are desendants of Lars's son, Thore Lars. Stuland. Is Eio austre a farm in Kvinnherad? This really seems to be a puzzle to find this info! I appreciate the time you put into this! I will try Digitalarkivet again. But, I am having a difficult time using this for research!

I have a great deal of my own ancestry from Kvinnherad and Fjelberg (including Ølen) and I've never heard of a farm in any of those locations by that name, not even a sub-farm or plass. It is possible someone has made an error and others are just copying it if you find that in multiples of family trees.

Eio is Eide in dialect. For instance, the location where this picture was taken is given as Eide/Eio.

I just started loooking at this thread, so I may be missing something, but it seems to me that Lars Toresen and wife Brita emigrated in 1871, which would be the reason why the various third-hand sources give his year of death as "after" this year.

Lars Thorsen Østereide, 71 years old, then Brithe Østereide, 71 years old in the next spot. The three spots before Lars Thorsen hold Lars Larsen Østereide, Marthe Østereide. and Anne Østereide. (#93 and onwards here. )

Lars and Marthe are clearly son and daughter-in law, married the previous year, and Anne is their grand-daughter, born in January of 1871. (#27)

#98 on the passenger list, Oline Knudsdatter Østereide, is probably a sister of Marthe. (Matching parents in 1846 and 1849.)

Lars Thorsen and Brita Johnsdatter's son Lars, who emigrated with his parents in 1871, was born on 04.22.1846, while they still lived at Stueland, (#45).

Uff! This is getting complicated! Yes, I am looking for Lars Thorson Malmanger but Lars T. was born August 15, 1857 on the Tjentland farm in the Arland Parish, Hjelmeland Clerical District, Rogaland, Norway. According to Lars's obituary his parents, Thore Larsson Stuland and Britta Kittlesdatter Hjelmeland were both born in the Kvinnherad Parish. Following their marriage in 1854, they moved to the Tjentland farm in Rogaland and returned to to the Kvinnherad Parish in 1863 along with 3 children ; Anna Cecilla, Lars and Kittel living first on the Hjelmeland farm and later on the Malmanger farm. They then had 5 more children. So sorry for the error of where he was born but lived most of his life in the Kvinnherad Parish before immigrating to America. I just found this obituary on his "Fine Me a Grave" website.

But your question was about where the parents, Lars Thoresen Stuland and Brita died "after 1871". That is the question that we've been trying to find for you and that ToreL has so helped with just above.
You've further stated that your own connection to them is through their son, Thor e Lars. Stuland.

Be very careful and Note that there is not any website entitled "Fine Me a Grave".
Also perhaps you meant Årdal parish in Hjelmeland - I don't find any Arland.

I understand this, and my theory is that his grandfather, also a Lars Toresen, himself emigrated in 1871, together with an uncle of the younger Lars Toresen/Thorsen, in 1871.

I think I have found Lars T and Britte (Britha) Østereide immigrating to America in 1871. I found them on the Bark Pera leaving Bergen on May 23, 1871 and arriving in Quebec on July 8, 1871. Their son, Lars Larssen and his wife, Marthe Knudsdotter and their baby, Anne came with them. BUT, I cannot find them through Ancestry anyplace. I have tried the names of Malmanger, Stuland, Eide and Østereide. Any suggestions of other names I could use?
