Hello everybody..

I am a new member from Sør Odal in Norway. I have for severel years trying to figure out what happened to my grandfathers sister Ellen Marie Kristoffersen and her daughter Kristina. .....According to Book of Church of Sør Odal (Strøm sogn), they immigrated year 1884 from Sør Odal , - to Trance City, Minnesota, USA.
BUT----------]there is no town in Minnesota or US with this name.
Could it be Tracy??? Another option is Transit Township, but i think maybe this Township is to "small" to be named in Book of church.
Is there anybody out there who can help me with this..???
I would be very grateful..........
Ellen Marie was born in 1854 and her daughter Kristina in 1881 or 1882.. Father unknown..

The emigration records list their destination as Frarsse City.

Could it be Frazee city in Becker County, Minnesota?

Hi I believe I have found them in the 1900 census in Becker County Minnesota. I found a 17 year old Christina Momb living in Detroit Township. She was born Aug 1883 in Norway and she is working as a servant..
I then found 43 year old John Momb living in Holmesville, his wife is Elen, born December 1858 in Norway. They have been married 15 years. She has had 7 children and there are 6 living with them so the Christina in Detroit Township could be hers

Christina B. age 22 born Norway
John age 16, born MN
Elly C. age 14

Arrnold, age 8

There is also a Lima Momb on the same page with 6 children.

Ottar,

There are some dates that don't match for Ellen and Christina.

The 1900 US census has Ellen born in December 1858, and Christina born August 1883.

Hello Jan P.
This is great.
Thank you. Trance / Frarsse / Frazee is very similar to each other.

Thank you to Carla and Les.

Even if some of the dates don`t match 100%, I think maybe this is the same Elen and Kristina I was locking for.
Same name, same State, same county. Do you think the same or am I wrong?? I will try this further...

Thank you so far.....

Johannes P. Mømb (29) from Øvre Rendalen, Hedmark, emigrating to Lake Park, Minnesota on 23.03.1883.

Could he be the father to Kristina??

Born 09-Aug-1883, christened 23-Sep-1883, Kristine Bergitte
Parents: Bachelor Johannes Pedersen Mømb (b.1853) & girl Elen Knudsdatter Nordset (b.1857). He is p.t. in America, she is at Nordset, Rendalen.

Knudsdatter must be a misspelling for Kristoffersdr.

Since there were no marriage we have to rely on the year of birth given for Elen, here she is as #13 her father was Knud Halworsen so she should be Elen Knudsdatter. She is also in the 1865 census here
It is not certain that this Elen is the right one.
I believe #40 here might also be a choice. Her father being Edvard Olsen we find her in the 1865 census here

Elen Maries daughter Kristine is #9 her father was Gustav Johannesen. The farm was Kjernsli under Rud.
Elen Marie and Gustav married 1881, see #18
This Elen was born Dec 18 1853, see #15
Not clear which one of the Elens who was Ottars grandfathers sister.
Having the data for Ottars grandfather is the only way to find out.

Hello
HERE WE GO...
Elen`s mother was Eli Kristoffersen Melby. They lived at the farm Melby. (Odals Verk, Sør Odal). I have also heard the name Edvard mentioned long time back. Eli moved later to Delerud (Sør Odal)

Hello again.
My grandfater was Kristoffer Kristoffersen, born 1836 in Sør Odal. My grandmother were born on the farm Langnes(Sør Odal). I am not sure about her name, but I think maybe Marte.
