Poul & Marithe's marriage record from 14 JUN 1812 states that she is from the Hovland farm, so the 10 yr old girl in Census-1801 is most likely the right one.

so is Jorgen Paulsen's last name then Ungkarl?
"I guess Jørgen Paulsen Ungkarl born at Hovland i Bømmel and Pigen Maren Jacobi Nielsdatter is clear - Pigen is?
so would Jørgens father Paul Aadnesen be. Marens father was Niels Peter Ørbek, Smed og Inderst paa Espeland. [/quote] the last part of the sentence is? Smed og Inderst paa Espeland
what does that interpret to? I'm quite Norwegian illiterate, you'll really have to bear with me, sorry!! |

Some bad translation there...
Ungkarl = Bachelor Pigen = The Girl Smed = Blacksmith Inderst = renter, lodger on a farm Espeland = Farm in Finnås, Hordaland Hovland i Bømmel = Hovland farm in Bømlo sub-parish in Finnås parish, Hordaland. Bømlo is now a municipality of it's own.

Cindi - Don't forget the 'how-to' and translation links I gave you earlier. If you study for a bit you'll save yourself a lot of duplicative work in the end. And you'll be able to DO IT YOURSELF. That is the real fun. |

Jan Peter - Once again you amaze and astound with the maps and images you offer! Is that second image from something like "Google Maps" or "Mapquest"? |

Many many thanks Jan Peter. I'm forced to learn a little more Norwegian to be able to navigate the website AND I'm now looking at an "fly foto" of what I consider MY family farm (my father's and my grandfather's American "surname"). I'll play with this website again and again! Fun! Thanks again. Hmmm - I think that barn needs a few roof repairs... |

Lisbeths grandparents were Iver Hansen, Langager and Lisbeth Andersdatter and Osmund Sørstokke i Augvaldsnæs and Marte Olsdatter.
When I try and click on the link, I get nothing, can you repost the link reguarding Sjur and his family? thanks so much in advance! |

Here are a few more birth dates you can add to your records for siblings of James Jacob Hovland. They are his brothers and sisters from the 1865 census, plus I found another sister, Johanna born in 1868. I quit looking after I found her, there could still be more.
If you go to the 1800 Finnås records, you will find several Hovland farm people recorded. I cannot read them very good, but if you spend some time studying them, you should be able to find more relatives.
Anna Si????ie Jørgensen’s birth record, entry line #85. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8271&idx_id=8271&uid=ny&idx_side=-10
Niels Johan Jørgensen’s birth record, entry line #212. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8271&idx_id=8271&uid=ny&idx_side=-36
Peder Andreas Jørgensen’s birth record, entry line #140 http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8271&idx_id=8271&uid=ny&idx_side=-75
Maren Heline Jørgensen’s birth record, entry line #8 http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6999&idx_id=6999&uid=ny&idx_side=-6
Torger Jørgensen’s birth record, entry line #2. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6999&idx_id=6999&uid=ny&idx_side=-16
Johanna Daar????? Jørgensen’s birth record, entry line #24. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6999&idx_id=6999&uid=ny&idx_side=-21
