I am having some difficulty finding information on two norwegian ancestors. Any help would be so appreciated! My family tells me they have been researching this since the 70s (no one actually having the means to travel to Norway).

First, my great great grandmother, Olga Justine Overson/Oversdatter.
* Birth 23 NOV 1884 in Norway (unsure where)
* Dark hair, dark skin
* Had a child Jenny, born in 1901 in Namdalseid (?) Norway
* Family members say the name Kolbal had been associated with her name
* Immigrated around 1906 per multiple census records. Unsure if she immigrated with her child Jenny or if Jenny came over at a later time (Jenny's children were born in Canada)
* Married Christ Satter 11/25/1907 in Minnesota, US and had many children. Passed away in 1966 in Wisconsin, US
* Many in the family think that she was Sami/Laplander. Would love to confirm that

Second, my great great grandfather, Christefer Christensen Sather (american name Christ Satter), born July 1874 in Romsdalen, Norway (not confirmed)
* Immigrated to the US around 1892 per multiple census records
* Naturalized in Buffalo, Wright County, Minnesota, US on September 7th, 1904 as Christopher Satter
* First married to Martha Satter (1869-1907) who was from Sweden, then married Olga (above)
* Died 1961 in Wisconsin, US

Once again thank you everyone for your help!

My family and I have taken the information you gave us, but unfortunately it is sort of hard to read some of the Norwegian archives, like the birth records. I cannot believe that you guys can read the hand writing! :) That is why I appreciate this site so much.

Anyways, a few more things?
- in the 1900 census, Elen Knudsdatter (b 18 Feb 1851), appears to have been widowed and has three children. Did she remarry a Nils?

What other information are you looking for?

You have Olga Justine with her parents in census-1900.
You have her father Ole Mikal with his parents in census-1865.

Oline's lastname is Nikolaisdr. A suggestion for her parents:
Nikolay Olsen Brørs b.1825 & Peternille Olsdatter b.1835, Nedre Brørs, Beitstaden, Nord-Trøndelag
Nikolay Olsen Brørs is a sponsor at Olga Justine's christening.

Could this girl be Oline in census-1865?

Olga's mother is listed as Oline Nekolae (??) b. 1860, but my searches of the archives cannot find anything else on her. I am trying to find Oline's parents.

As for Olga's father Ole, I didn't realize that was his parents in the 1865 census as he is listed as a farmhand. Are Ole's parents Jakob Mikals and Sanna Abrahamsd.?

Sincerely,

Tamara

You're right, sorry!

Ole Mikal Ovesen is a farmhand on Deraasbrænden in 1865. His parents are not listed. His father should be named Ove.

Ole Mikal Ovesen is born about 1859 in Beitstad, Nord-Trøndelag. The churchbooks for the parish can be viewed here, there is no need for eibache to do all these lookups, you should be able to navigate them yourself...

Hey Jan thanks for that additional information on Oline. I am searching off that info. That does look like her in the census. See Olga's side of the family is something I am really trying to research, for our family thinks she was a Laplander and so trying to trace back her family to find out if that was true.

Again, thanks for your help! :)

I have not seen any connection to the Lapp people for Olga Justine so far, that is normally also noted in the censuses or the churchbooks.

Namdalseid is close to Snåsa, where there was (and still is) a big community of Lapp people.
You should look for notes or remarks saying "same"or "samisk", meaning that the person is Lapp or (belongs to) the Saami community.

Good finding, Les!

One correction: Ole Mikael's father is Ove Olsen Lid.
Oline Justine Julie Nikolaisdtr resided at Deraasbrænden in 1882. Her birthplace is listed as Reitan (Klingen ...). She lived at Klingen when she was confirmed. Martin Benjaminsen Deraasbrænden was her best man.
