No, this is far from the Verdal border.
Below is the loaction of the Rodvold farm where Gidsken Petersdatter (14) was found in census 1865.

Meråker in Nord Trøndelag county. Close to the Sør-Trøndelag border and Sweden.

Are there books available listing the occupants of the different farms in the Meraker region? |

Yes you can search for farm names in the censuses, 1801, 1865, 1875 and 1900, farm names may be spelled differently from census to census. Example Storøien 1865 and in 1875

You should be looking for Meråker Bygdebok, written by Bjørn Roar Krogstad. They are published in 4 volumes and volume 3 and 4 contains farm history. All four bindings are written in Norwegian.

These are the current municipality borders for the region. Please note that the borders have changed throughout history, due to merging of municipalities etc.

Can any information be found on Mary (Rodvold) Olson? She married John Olson and she died in 1971. She died in the Osakis area, Todd County, MN. I can give a birth date if that would make it easier, but I just don't have it with me right now. |

Hi
Mary Olson by the numbers in the death index at www.mnhs.org:
341 total who died between 1908-2001
7 who died in 1971 none in Todd
3 who died in Todd none in 1971
More information is definately needed!

I just found Mary's obituary this weekend and she would have been a sister to Magnus Rodvold because her parents were listed as Sivert and Mali Rodvold. |

After seeing where this has all lead, the main thing I would like to know is how Gisken Rodvold is related to Magnus and the rest of his siblings. Magnus' father and Gisken's father would be the connection I would think. Can it be found if they are connected at all??? |

It looks to me that Magnus' father was born at Staaloien, not Strinden. Am I reading it correctly? |

No, you're not reading it correctly.
- Census-1865 says that Sivert Johnsen is born in Strinden parish.
- Emigration records from May 1881 says that Sivert Jonsen currently resides in Øvre Størdalen (ie. Meråker)
- Christening record of Magnus Sivertsen says that Magnus' parents at that time (26 Dec 1870) resides at Staaloien.
The two last records doesn't say anything about where Sivert Johnsen is born.

Ok, I understand now. Thanks. But I would still like to know if there is any connect between Gisken's family or Magnus' family. |
