You dont have any farm names, anything, even it make no sence to you.
When about was they born? Where they related?
Saamund Nielsen and Ragnild Kristine Henrickdatter is Norwegian names, as well as Johanna Christine, but Thompson must have been changed from another last name in USA, did she marry a Thompson? Was it changed from Thomassen? (various spellings)

Ragnild Kirstine's parents emigrated in April 1867 Johanne's parents (Thomas Rasmussen, Wĉrket (Kronborg) and Anne Johannesdatter, Wĉrket) did also have a daughter named Karen Thomasdatter. Karen married Gjert Henriksen, a brother to Ragnhild Kirstine.
"Wĉrket" is Ulefoss Jernverk (Ulefoss iron mill), who was a major factory in the area, and produced items such as this oven:

I think you are right Jan Peter, Saamund born 1834 was born on Verket. Holla parish is in the Nome - Ulefoss area in Telemark County in eastern Norway, Bergen is the capitol of western Norway.

Looks like the author knew a little bit more than what first was reported... link
Btw; I see that you question their daughter Maria (2 1/2 yrs old). Maria, born July 18th, 1860 is indeed a daughter of Saamund Nilsen & Ragnild Kirstine Henriksdatter. She is christened Maren, see # 72
Sam Nelson in census-1880 for Sand Creek, Dunn, Wisconsin
A "Maria Taycen" (married name) lives in the household next to Sam. She is born in Norway about 1861...

Need to know more about Johanne Christine Thomson, - Bergen is mentioned, if she was born there one possibility may be #75 she was an "uĉgte" child, not uncommon that they emigrated but record to confirm this has not been found.

I find it very strange if she is not the daughter of Tomas Rasmussen & Anne Johannesdr. This Johanne Tomasdatter is born 09 Dec 1844, which is the date he is looking for, according to the rootsweb forum... And there are already family ties between this Johanne & Saamund, since her sister Karen married Saamund's brother-in-law.

If you ask me, I would say no. But the question should probably go to the author of this topic...

I am 74 and a great-grandson of Saamund Nielsen/Nelson. I have just begun to work genealogy related to him. I visited his grave and that of his second wife Johanne (and son Martin) in Sand Creek, WI, where I lived as a child. In looking over what preceded me in this topic I don' seem to have as much information as is already included. What additional information could I possibly provide? |

Thank you all for your time and information. I am not sure where to start. I know I was quite vague the 1st post but did not know what info I had was necessary?? What we have in the tree, from old notes, relatives, etc.: Saamund Nelson DOB 1833 POB Bergen, Telemarken, Nor Johanna Christine Thompson DOB 9Dec1844 POB Telemarken, Nor
I assume that without any farm names, they were both city people?? I did find the entry about Wĉrket .
I believe that Johanna Thompson immigrated to the Chicago area with her parents thus the Americanized Thompson name. She was single.
Saamund went to Chicago to see if she would return to WI with him to look after the children after his first wife died. Previously knew the family in Norway??
Reference to Ragnild Henriksdatter and dau Maria. There has not been a name for his first wife and there is a son, Louis DOB 1850, Nor in the family. Perhaps immigrated later?? Did Maria die in passage. There is no info on her after the immigration. Possible also that Maria may have already married (jwiborg post) prior to the 1880 census??
Saamund did settle in the Sand Creek, WI area and is buried there with wife Johanna Christine (spelling on her stone). Do not have any burial information on Ragnild.
Again, THANK YOU for all your help. Now we just need to sort everything out.
Kċarto and jwiborg, if you are interested I do have some farm names on the Olson side I could use some help on. Interested??? Jeff |

No, this is far out on the countryside. Closest city was many hours away. The farm they stayed at was called Wĉrket.

Not easy to understand what you're trying to say here...
There has not been a name for his first wife?? What do you mean? Wasn't Saamunds first wife Ragnild Kirstine Henriksdr? Saamund & Ragnild Kirstine emigrated with their daughter Maria (1y 9m) on 04 MAR 1862. According to the 1880-census, their son Louis is born ca 1863 in Wisconsin. Maria could be the girl who lives next door to Sam & Johanne Nelson, married to a man named "Charley Taycen".
