Jan Peter is correct on Doris and Elenore. One way to find them is to find a relative ie Melvin or his children. They could then tell you hopefully about Doris and Elenore. In this case you could do worse than write a letter to Melvin G Davis at 306 Guyon Avenue, Staten Island, New York, 10306 and ask if he is the grandson of Signe Davis-Hansen. Or if you are in a hurry call at 718-351-2447. As Jan Peter stated he is listed as being 61 years old.

So far I have had little to no luck turning up anything on Doris or Elenore.

Anton & Jan, Thanks again for the follow through. Speaking to my wife we will write to Melvin Davis to see if he is a son. Re Jorg's death. It was received in a letter to "Barth Hansen" (do not have this letter) with a death notice in Norweign. "Jorg H. Hansen. min kjaere mann og var kjaere far svigerfar, bestefar og bror, dode i sitt hjem Eltingville, St. Island, U.S.A., den 4. juli 1952.
Signe Hansen
Doris og Eleonore,
barn.
Barth Hansen bror,
Dina Sorensen, soster"

Excuse that I have not used o with cross through it and 'ae' joined together.

We have never had death notice translated.

Alan.

Doris og Elenore, barn (children)

Hi,

Well it looks as though Melvin is not listed as stepson or at all--perhaps he died in WWII? But one or both of the girls must be married if he is to be a father-in-law.

What happened to the sister Dina Sorenson? Any family / descendants of hers to contact?

Jackie M.

Maybe some progress can be made by following the Sorensen name. The 1920 US Census shows a Diana Sorensen age 42 ie born abt 1878 in Norway living in Bronx, New York, again one of the boroughs of New York City. Her husband is Hans Sorensen age 49 also born in Norway with sons Harry age 13, George 11 and James abt 4.

The same family minus Hans is found in the 1930 US Census where she is listed as Dina Sorensen age 53 born in Norway, George age 21, Mary 21 (maybe George's wife hard to read) and James 14

Year of immigration for Hans is 1896 and for Dina 1904

Do we know anything about the family of George (Jorg) to lead us to beleive that he had a sister that fits Diana

Since Hans was not in the 1930 US Census, I looked for him in the NY City Death Index Resutls. This is probably him here

http://www.italiangen.org/NYCDeathresults.asp?kind=exact&Esurname=sorensen&Efirst=hans&StartYear=&EndYear=&County=Bronx&B1=Submit

Having died in April 13, 1928 at age 57 would put his birth year at 1871, which corresponds well to the 1920 US Census age of 49..

Dina Johanne Hansen (15) from Nøterø, going to Michigan on 23 Mar 1906.

Dina Johanne Hansen, born 15 Oct 1890, residence Nøterø, going to New York to get married on 04 Oct 1912.
Note: From Ellis Island records, it looks like her destination in 1912 was Marquette, Michigan. She list her closest relative as "Mother: Mrs O. Olavsen, Drammen"...

Did her parents divorce?

Alan, I had a few extra pennies in my cell phone account so I called the Staten Island phone number.

I talked with a Ruth Ann Davis Palleto. She is the sister of Melvin C Davis who is now deceased. Both she and her brother are the children of Melvin G Davis. Melvin G Davis is the son of Signe Davis Hansen and John Davis her first husband.

She was able to inform me that Elenor Hansen marrried Ed Becker. Unfortunately Elenor is now deceased but Ed is still alive and lives in Toms River New Jersey.

She was also able to tell me that Doris married a Olaf Nygen and is still alive and lives at 111 Petrus Avenue, Staten Island, New York, 10312

I will check into the information further and update you later

With this new information I was able to find in the 1920 US Census John Davis age 33 born in Sweden, Singe Davis age 30 born in Sweden both imigrated in 1905 living in Richmond County ie Staten Island, New York with two children Arthur age 5 and Agustan age 3 both born in the US. Oddly enough no Melvin.

And on the same page I also found John Nygren age 31 and Emma (?) age 29 both born in Sweden and two children Carl age 5 and Olaf 2 (future husband of Doris) both born in US. So the famiilies probably new one another.
