quote: Einar, Brita you found born on Brunborg 1824 born to Knud Olsen Brunborg and Kari Larsdatter is correct, her fathers name was wrongspelled Knud Olsen instead of Knud Aadsen.
- how did you come to this conclusion? Knud Aadsen did baptize a Britha in 1824, she was born Dec 24 1823, see #20 but her mother was Inga Stephensdatter - not Kari Larsdatter and Knud Aadsen was on the Qvitne farm, not on Brunborg.

It was two Knud Aadsen in Voss, Knud Oddsen Qitne in Wangen and Knud Aadsen Brunborg in Evanger.
I believe Knud Olsen Brunborg and Knud Aadsen Brunborg is most likley the same person in the 1824 record and that the name was miss-spelled.
Knud Aadsen Brunborg married Kari Larsdatter Nĉsheim June 28. 1818 #14
Knud Aadsen age 9 on Brunborg 1801
Kari Larsdatter on Nesheim 1801
They got Anne born 1819, Marita b. 1821 and Aad b. 1826, all born on Brunborg.

So we have the right Britha Knudsdatter, Brunborg born Jan 22 1824. The Britha Knudsdatter and Niels Johannesen from Skutle, who emigrated in 1850 are pobably not the right persons since Knud Aadsen was on Skutle when they married.

No, I think she was not the right Brita Knudsdatter. Knud Aadsen Brunborg lived on Brunborg in 1835 when his son Aad vas vaccinated Feb. 7. (1823-37 page 214 #38) so they didn´t leave in 1828 either.
We know that all emigrants wasn´t recorded.

Thank you all so much for your help. I am certain that Britha Knudsdatter born at Brunborg in 1824 was my great-grandmother. I have known the Brunborg name for a long time, as that information was told to my mother from her father but my mother did not know it was the name of a farm. I am trying to find her immigration, and to unravel the confusing part about the birth of her son Christopher in 1859. This summer I did some genealogy work in Emmet County, Iowa and found that Hans Hanson died in 1889 in High Lake Township. I have not been able to find Britha's death record. On different census records in America she was called Betsy and Breta and Bertha. |

I did find on the Bark Hermes, arriving May 26 1850 in New York, a Berthe Olsdatter. This is the only person who could possibly be her on that ship. Her father's last name of Oddson was erroneousy translated as Olsen before. So far that is my best lead. |

The original manifest for that ship shows Berthe Olsdatter as wife age 26. Husband is listed as Anders Olsen. There are also three children listed, Ole age 5, Serine age 2 and Asper no age given, assumed infant. The date for the ships arrival is given in this data as May 29, 1850 but the ship is correct.
Name: Berthe Olsdatter Arrival Date: 29 May 1850 Estimated birth year: abt 1824 Age: 26 Gender: Female Port of Departure: Norway Ship Name: Hermes Search Ship Database: Search the Hermes in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: New York, New York Line: 23

Hi, I really wish you are right, but there is a problem.
Hermes left from Lillesand April 23 and arrived New York Mai 26. Lillesand is a town in Aust-Agder County (Sout east Norway) Voss where she came from is the inland in Hordaland County, South-west Norway.
The only solution as I see it if she hired a boat in Voss or Bergen to Lillesand. Then we must assume she traveled together with other emigrants to Lillesand.
Unlikly but not impossible, espesailly if the emigrants ships in Bergen were fully loaded.
