Going back and looking more carefully at the immigration record for Signe, I can see that the fathers name is Kristian as it should be. Also the Myre reference might explain why the Mothers maiden name in the childrens Minnesota birth records is recorded as Meyer.

Although the death certificate for Signe gives her month as Jan not July, however with the correct date and year.

Here is some further information on the Martin Davidson from Virginia, Minnesota. From WWI Registration.

Name: Martin Davidson
County: St Louis
State: Minnesota
Birth Date: 19 Jul 1876
Race: White

Also the 1930 US Census shows him obtaining citizenship in 1905 and Signe in 1911. It also shows his age at first marriage as 31 meaning he was married to Signe in 1910 or 1911 if we use Signe's data. Thus Martin must have been living in the US for some time before he returned to Norway and brought Signe back with him.

You folks are too good. I will miss you now for a few days due to previous plans. Save me something to do by the time I get back although the way you are going it looks like I will have nothing left to do. Congratulations. This is the same Martin Davidsen.

Lyndal40, I just read your post on WW1 registration re: the age of his first marriage. Martin's first marriage was to Petra Ovidia Olsdatter, 26 Sept 1878 in Kroka, Bronnoy. They had 5 children of which I am assuming (Luilui) Tor, a writer on this string, is one of the decendants. Now I really have to go. Back in 5 days.

July 19. was a wrongspelling, Signe was born Jan 19. 1890.

I am still not sure we have the right Martin Davidsen/Davidson. His fathers name was David Anders Davidsen as we can see from the church record of his marriage in 1902.

There is also no questions about his arrival in Boston June 12 1912, the question is: What happened from there?

From the data we have turned up on Martin Davis (Davidson) who lived in Virginia, St Louis County, Minnesota, I think he was living in Minnesota as early as 1900 and maybe as early as 1893. He then returned to Norway where he met and perhaps married Signe, returned to the US through Canada and back to Virginia, Minneota. Where he became Martin Davidson and lived out the rest of his life in Minnesota.

I also think he is a different man than is Martin Norgren Davidsen born July 19, 1877. and who travelled to Boston June 12, 1912, although we probably need to find a birth record for Martin Davis (Davidson) to really complete the proof. It just seems that one man could not have done all of the things we have a record of Martin Davis (Davidson) doing in Minnesota and back and forth to Norway in the same time frame as Martin Norgren Davidson was doing things in Norway ie getting married and then travelling to Boston.

I do admit that the birth date for Martin Davis (Davidson) of July 19, 1876 and Martin Norgren Davidson of July 19, 1877 is interesting.

Hi,

Here is a possible from HeritageQuest in 1920 US Census. Age is indexed as 29 but truly is written in a messy way and could be something other (59, 49, 39?). He came in 1912, he was born in Norway but parents are listed as having been born in Finland. Wife Edith age 30 born Finland and a son William, a few months old. Martin's occupation is "massage" and he, Edith and William are boarding, living in New York:

Surname Given Name Age Sex Race Birthplace State County Location Year
DAVIDSON MARTIN 29 M W NORW NY NEW YORK MANHATTAN 1920

From the Italian Genealogy website here is their marriage information:

Surname Given Name Month of Marriage Dayof Marriage
Year of Marriage County Certificate Number Soundex
Davidson Martin Dec 14 1917 Manhattan 32574 D132

Her name is given as Edith Christiansan.
