My mother has written a book of our family. It stops with her grandfather Thomas Thompson (I'm sure Thompson was not spelled correctly) He was born in Drammen November 19 1861. We would love to know his mothers name and his fathers name. He came here from Oslo (according to my grandmother) Anything would be helpful. We were told by my grandmother that he came here as a teenager between 1879-1883. He died in Chicago (in a Norwegian Old Peoples home) in 1943. He had two wives the first we don't know, they had a son Andrew. The second Eugenia my great-grandmother, they had Alice and Arthur. Thats all I've got, I don't know where to start. Thanks |

Census-1900 for Chicago, Cook, IL says born Nov 1862 (1892!), 37 yo., immigration year=1887, married 1899 to Eugenia. Eugenia is born in Illinois by swedish parents. Son Andrew is born Nov 1888. His mother is listed as swedish.
Census-1910 for Chicago, Cook, Illinois: Thomas Thompson, 1861, imm 1883 Eugenia Thompson, 1871 Alice Thompson, 1902 Arthur Thompson, 1903
Census-1920 for Chicago, Cook, Illinois: Thomas Thompson, born 1865, immigration year 1890.
Do you know the source for "Born in Drammen November 19 1861"? Drammen is a town in Buskerud county, and located just west of Oslo.

My mother told me he was born in 1861. Everything was not verified. The Birth place in Drammen was told to us also. The source was my grandmother. I just thought it might be a place to look. Eugenias father was Carl Peterson from Sweeden. Thats all we know there also. The funny part of our family story is that my mothers grandmother (Eugenia) and my fathers grandmother (Bertha) grew up living next door to each other as children in Evanston, Illinois. |

Just talked to my mom. Most of the information came from the family Bible. It was written by Eugenia and Alice. |

A closer and most likely birth is from Strømsgodset (today part of Drammen), see #2 at bottom of page. Thomas was born Nov 19 1861 and baptized Febr 16 1862. His parents were shoemaker Anders Thomassen and Mathilde Karoline born Knudsen living at søndre Fjeld. In 1865 the family is living at Gunerød.

Do you know the name of the church, or what faith they were? Maybe death dates? |

Thomas was baptized in Strømsgodset kirke.
His parents were married in Strømsø kirke.
Older churches not available.
You can read more on the Norwegian Church
Death information requires lots of work, especially for people moving around. |

Would there be any record of Thomas having an older brother named Axel? |

Thomas had a sister Rudolfine Fredrikke born March 19 1864, see #10.
He also had a half sister Anna Ovidia born Febr 21 1855, see #32. Her father was Caroline Mathildes first husband Jens Otto Ottersen.
If Axel is supposed to be older than Thomas, he must have been younger than Anna Ovidia and he should have been included in the 1865 census if he was still alive. There is no Axel with the family i 1865 - I think my conclusion is that Thomas did not have an older brother Axel.
