Hi and thanks Lyndal40. Sig*Dana is actually Serianne, a sister of Ingeborg who was the mother of Maria. I have traced her descendants and I am proud of being in contact with some of them who also visitred Oslo where I live.

Hi again, there are SO many Maria's! Easy to drop into total confusion, mind you! If you could help me confirm WHO was actually Maria the wife of young Olson ? (Ole A. was a son of Serianna Ottersdatter in Bear Creek, Northland and he took over the farm after his parents). Some have suggested that Ole A.'s wife was another sister of Serianna who emigrated later....
Do you want more info on her? I have.

Hi again! Year of Maria's immigration points to a possibility that she could be the right Maria. Also her bitth year is estimated nearly correctly in accordance with year 1880 which I had noted. In that case, Ole A. and Maria must have been cousins!

Einar,

I went back and read your earlier posting from 2005 on this family and now understand a little better the relationships. Maybe there is more information on Marie born abt 1882 immigrated 1905 to be found. We shall see.

I notice that the 1930 US Census for the family, which I think you have seen, shows Mary as having immigrated in 1904, age 48 and having been married 25 years. It seems very likely if these data are compared with the other census data that Mary and Ole A were married in America afterr Mary (Maria, Marie) immigrated to the United States. Further supported of course by the fact that Ole A is listed as having been born in North Dakota on the census sheets.

Name: Mary Olson
Home in 1930: Grand Forks, Grand Forks, North Dakota

Age: 48
Estimated birth year: abt 1882
Relation to Head of House: Wife
Spouse's name: Ole
Race: White

Hi lyndalk40! Thanks a great lot! Does your investigation now confirm that Ole A. Olson's wife was actually "our" Maria? See also suggestions as mentioned that Ole's wife could have been a sister of Ole's mother, in other words: his aunt? There were a number of sisters Otterson from Bardu emigrating between 1876 and around 1910.

There are census data for North Dakota for both 1915 and 1925 in Ancestry.com but they contain even less information than the Federal Census data. Here is Mary (Maria, Marie) from 1925.

Name: Mary Olson
County: Grand Forks
Town/City: Grand Forks
Census Year: 1925
Age: 42
Est. Birth Year: abt 1883
Roll: ndsc_5234

No, my very little investigation does not confirm that the Mary (Maria, Marie) who married Ole A is the same Marie who you have asked about. It does lead us in that direction, but you would need some proof such as a marriage or death document showing who the parents of Mary wife of Ole A are. So far we do not have that. At least to my knowledge.

My suggestion for you. Since you do know quite a lot about the Ole A and Mary Olson family and since they lived in Ransom County for quite a few years it might be useful to post a query on a website. There is a website for Ransom County, North Dakota.

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ndransom/

where you can post a question about this family with emphasis on Mary and her background. At this website click on Queries and clck on Post Your Ransom County Query.

Einar,

In 2004 a lady Bodil Haugli has the same interest as you. A lady who helped her with her search for Marie came to about the same conclusion that I did. That the most likely candidate is Mary Olson who married Ole A Olson. You can follow the search on DIS Slektsforum.
