At this moment I don't have any more information about Knud's sister, Anna Olsdatter (b.1812) or her own family. But as time permits in the next few days I will do a little digging and see what I can find.

I did look into the 1865 census for Martha Olsdatter (widow of Gjert Pedersen) where Martha was living with her son, Peder, and your missing Brita on "Aslesletten" u. Fet. The fourth person in that household at the time is a niece, Marta Helgesdtr - daughter of Gjert's sister Margrete and her husband, Helge Helgesen Pile.

Magnar --

The first member of that immediate family that I've been able to find in the US is the son Knud Henningsen/Hemmingsen who was born 3 Oct 1844. He married Christi Christensdatter 1865 in Kvinnherad and the couple emigrated to the US in 1866.

Knud appears in the 1880 US census in Benton Co., Iowa with wife Christi, daughters Christi and Sophia and sons Austin and Henry. He is listed under the name Knudt Austin.
Some events for Knud also appear in the FamilySearch Record Search databases -- him being shown with various names including Knud H. Auston, Austin and I think even Osten once or twice.

By 1900 Knud is shown with a different wife and set of younger children -- living in Polk Co. Iowa. Polk Co. is the location of the state's capitol city, Des Moines. I have found no information about what happened to his first wife or children.

Another brother, Ole Hemmingsen (born circa 1841) also probably appears in Benton Co. Iowa but using the surname of Hemmingson. For example, the birth of a daughter Anne Kristine Hemmingson in 1883 in Benton Co. with the mother listed as Bertha.

I have not yet been successful in finding ANY mention of Hemming Ostensen (or any variation of that name) or Anne Olsdatter. I might have some faint leads... but they will take time to test out.

I'll try to send you a private email later today so that we could take this detailed research on my extended family off the message boards unless you would prefer that we keep our correspondence here.
