Not sure if you have discovered that, but there was (and still is) a trend to use more middle names in the north of Norway.

But to name a girl with 3 very similar names as Laura Andrine Martine is very rare. Laura Andrine would be ok, and also Laura Martine would be quite common. But Laura Andrine Martine is not so common... Maybe they couldn't decide whether to go for Andrine or Martine...

She is not named after parents or g.parents either, so this is a bit strange.

I have seen that occasionally there are 2 or 3 middle names in some families in the US and England but it is very rare. I assume Laura's situation is similar. They probably had 3 people they wanted to name the baby after and chose all three. As this was probably their first baby, I wonder why they didn't save at least one of the names for a future baby. I know that naming patterns usually are to name after a grandparent or an aunt. None of her father's sisters have any of those names. I don't know who her mother's siblings are so I wonder as well why she has the 3 names. I'll probably never know.

Thanks for responding.

I have another child that I have found on the digitized records of Talvik. This person was born 9 July 1838I am specifically looking at the child #52 here. http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=288&idx_id=288&uid=ny&idx_side=-17

The parents of this child are Andreas Olsen, of Talvig and Margarette Larsdatter. I believe the child's name is Emereutse. I am unfamiliar with that name or a derivation of it. Could someone look at this and tell me the name of the child and the gender?

Thank you so much for all the help you have given me in the past.

I read the record as Emerentse, her parents were Norwegian Andreas Olsen, Talvig and wife Margrethe Larsdatter.
Emerentse was a girl.
I did not find her in the confirmation records to confirm this, since
Emerentse, Andreas Olsens child, died 11 months old, see #51.

Thanks Einar

I see that it is Emerentse in both entries. In my limited Norwegian research I have not seen that name before. I just googled it and see that it is a name used in Scandanavian countries for girls and I should be more aware of it. Thank you again. I have learned so much from this forum and website. It makes my head spin at how much is available to me in researching my ancestors.

The words "thank you" are inadequate to express my appreciation.
